I just picked one up, and was astounded to see that nikon's practically identical and over $100.00 more!

now to search the threads for tips on the best way to set it up...auto, grip first, or camera first....
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I have it set for Body first and when this exhausts i switch it to the grip and once i get it home i take the body one out and switch it over with the grip battery and then recharge the exhausted one Whew
And i also have another fully charged battery in my bag.

Edit: I did have it set to auto when i first purchased the grip but i found you never new which battery it was running on or which one was flat unless you scrolled through the menus.

I have mine setup to grip first.

If the grips been on then after a seession it gets the battery gets recharged.
If the grip has not been attached then the camera battery is the one that gets recharged.

I find it easier to keep track of the state of charge

That does make better sense

Just a note, and probably not a big problem but be aware that when the first battery get exhausted, the second battery doesn't simply take up the slack. The camera will stop working. You have to shut the camera off then on in order to cause the fresh battery to come on line. (in fact you may need to do so a few times because the initial selected battery may "recharge" enough to stay online and go flat again after one or two photos.

Rather irritating and surprising the first time or two it happens, but now not much of an issue.

I use it with one battery in the grip only, I never take the grip off.

I set mine to go with the grip battery 1st, body 2nd as this seemed obvious to me, ie when the grip battery ran out, charge it, this would then leave a fully charged battery in the camera at all times.

Strange thing is, setting it up like this the camera tells me after a few shots that the battery is empty! Turn it back on, switch battery selector to auto, and in one case, went on to shoot over 1000 shots!

That seemed very weird to me, even more weird when we got the Grand Prix last week, it did exactly the same thing at the NEC on Sunday!
