My Canon (sorry to use that word on this forum!) i950 is dying and I am thinking of upgrading it - and perhaps moving to A3 in the process - looking at the Epson R1800 (soon to be replaced by the 1900 so I might wait) but I am also tempted by the Canon (oops! again!) models (9000 & 9500) even though they are more expensive.

Any thoughts or experiences anyone?

Re: The SMC Pentax-DA 40mm Limited Lens
Your impression is incorrect and my statement holds true. ALL DA and DA* lenses (including the 40mm Ltd) are designed excusively for the APS-C sized sensor used by Pentax current range of DSLR's.
The following are quotes from Pentax DA 40mm Limited features list:-
"Designed for exclusive use with PENTAX digital SLR cameras"
"The image circle is designed to match the CCD used in PENTAX digital SLRs"
This may be what Pentax says, but when the lens first came out I remember of series of posts saying that it works fine on full frame bodies - though what corner resolutions is like I do not know. I don't have one myself.

So... are they considered to be as good as the Pentax? because i hear they are likely to be rather cheaper... and if they are cheaper, then lucky Canon and Nikon at getting cracking 'pentax' glass at great prices.

Assuming this is actually a cracking lens, that is...
Actually the Tokina 10-17 is considerably more expensive than the Pentax - and for all other optical ranges if you want cheaper then Sigma can provide that - So Pentax users could be said to be better off...

Ah - but this is not a wedding DVD....

It took me quite a whle to work out how to control the music - it is not immediately obvious that one has to click on the little graphic frequency response thing. And I am regarded as bordering on nerdy when it comes to computers (and some other things).

Personally I like Evanescence (on the landcape bit) and that is a great track, but what people on the forum are trying to tell you is that music is a turn-off on websites - I feeling with which I concur, especially as I share an office with others. At the very leat there should be very obvious 'mute' button in the controls.

Have you upgraded your K10D to version 1.30 of the firmware? if not it will not support the HSM facility of the DA* lens and so will be noisy as the focus will still be using the mechanical link.

I have all 91 Issues of Outdoor Photography to date and they need to find a home as I am moving to Italy in three weeks time.

I've listed them on ebay for a tenner but they didn't sell so I've relisted them for two quid.

If anybody on this forum wants them I will happily give them to anyone who will collect and I will withdraw them from ebay. I'll even drop them round if you are reasonably local. Respond by PM before the auction ends and they are yours. It seems a shame to put them in the recycle bin....

If you are after an all-purpose lens, a number of reviews suggest the Tamron 18-250 (NOT the 18-200 - which is on a par with the Sigma) performs rather better than the rest. Still not up to the quality of a prime or good shoerter range zoom of course but that is the price you pay for convenience. And taking of price it is a bit more expensive then the others.

It used to be said that there are only two good times to buy a computer. Yesterday - because then you would have got the benefit earlier, and tomorrow, because then you will be able to get the same thing cheaper.

I guess the same thing applies to digital cameras.
