Why didn't I wait for a couple of months, got my K100D for £399 in April...

Sods law , I've just bought the K100D about 3 weeks ago !!!!

Ah well , look on the bright side , the body only cost may drop low enough to buy that only in the future !!

Then by your logic we should see it cheaper in about a month???!!!

We can only hope! Wonder if they'd do the body only for £50 less....hmmm

Indeed, got my K10D on the 31st of May. One month later £100 less...

SRSmicrosystems have body only for 449 pounds.

I'm hoping they drop the price in Holland too - this is the first time the UK has been cheaper than the Netherlands.

I paid £700 at Jessops in January for my K10D and 18-55.

Now it's £500.

Should I have waited?

NO WAY!!

I've had a lot of fun with it in the last 6 months. Learned a lot, taken a few pics I'm pleased with, and lots that other people like.

Well worth the £200. You can't worry forever about the fact that the price will be lower tomorrow. That way lies never having the thing at all.

That's the way to look at it. Once I've bought something I stop thinking about the price and get on with using it.

I've known people make themselves miserable by not letting it go.

I just found a K10D body for £435, not sure if I should go for this one and then buy the lens separately. I have seen the DA 18-55 lens going for cheap on Ebay... I don't think it is proving popular this lens. However, I read good reviews about it when compared to Nikon's and Canon's kit ones.

We "rent" everything we buy anyway. It all has a useful lifetime and -- like cars -- is usually worth much less purely because you've driven iot off the forecourt. So you have to be relaxed about these things.

The trick is to buy fairly soon in a new product's life. Then although you pay a premium, by the time the next version's out the pain of paying for yours had faded. That's one reason why I never buy anything -- even interest free -- on credit.

Having said all that, I nearly bought a K10D body last Tuesday. If I'd done that and watched the price drop significantly within 48 hours I'd have been spitting feathers. Or maybe on the phone crying to the retailer.

Kit lenses always go cheap because a lot of them get sold, and many people will wish to upgrade in due course to something better.

Also, because they are kit lenses, people tend not to give them the credit that some of them deserve. From what I hear, the 18-55 is a bargain for the price it is bundled at. And although the 16-45 may be better, it is significantly more expensive, and a lot shorter. If I were restricted to just one lens, the 18-55 would win against the 16-45 because the extra length at the long end more than makes up for 2mm lost at the short end.

It used to be said that there are only two good times to buy a computer. Yesterday - because then you would have got the benefit earlier, and tomorrow, because then you will be able to get the same thing cheaper.

I guess the same thing applies to digital cameras.

I want, I want, I want!!

Okay, I have realised that I only want the K10D as a new toy. I need to concentrate in improving my photography with my K100D, which is a perfectly good camera.....deep breaths....ahhhhh.

May pack my K100D away for a month and use my P30, that way it will be like getting a new toy all over again when I get my K100D out again!

Will wait for the K20D, or K10D Super if that's the way things are going.

One of my earliest memories is in infant school, trying to cut coloured paper with some completely blunt plastic scissors. They only gave us blunt plastic ones so that we couldn't cut ourselves.

My experience was of only frustration and resentment. I'd used proper metal scissors at home without injury, and had made some quite nice Christmas decorations. 'Nice' from the perspective of a five year old, I grant you, but bear with me...

I'm not for a moment suggesting that there's anything wrong with the K100D. Everything I've heard suggests that it's very good.

But I do think that getting the best materials will enhance, not detract from, the learning process. There's no point imposing an artificial constraint by choosing something less capable, just to put you under more pressure to improve.

If you care enough about quality, you'll create enough pressure on yourself without asking the equipment to add even more.
