Some years ago while moderating on a forum I was accused of being power mad by someone I'd had to step on a bit. Rather than go for the bait and argue I made this avatar to wind him up. I got to like it and I've stuck with it ever since, it's 'me' now
For anyone who doesn't know it's "The Brain" from the cartoon Pinky and the Brain, a megalomaniac mouse intent on taking over the world!
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I bought this quarter-plate camera when I was a student, ca 1952, from a bric-a-brac shop in Catford (cheap area of South London). Used it for as long as one could buy plates over the counter. Still have it.
Do the avatars that move or shift colour bother other people? I'm beginning to find them distracting. Must be old age...

Glad this post has been resurrected - it's a favourite of mine
One of our (nameless ) brethren has such a garish, psychedelic flashing avatar, I have to rapidly back out of posts of his before retina damage ensues . I'm not sure it helps him when trying to sell stuff in the classifieds

Well I just realised that I have changed mine since I posted here in July 2011.
My post starts "Mine is not me either, but a photo of my first dog, Keri ..."
Clearly, not a dog, but one of my many cats, Cherry Pie, reclining on one of our beach chairs. So named because as a kitten, her little white face and her little pink nose resembled a Bakewell Tart, with a bit of imagination anyway.
My wife chose the name, and it stuck.

This is a photo the iMac took of me, plus some effect gizmo. If I remember right, it's also upside down. I thought that it would suit the name I've chosen for this site.

Me looking into my grandfather's henhouse. My daughters tell me it looks as though I'm wearing a dress; little do they appreciate that those coats were then the height of fashion for a (?)3-year-old. Family legend has it that I so scared the hens they didn't lay for a week.

I wouldn't know about those as I have moving graphics turned off in browser preferences. But all avatars distract (which is why people use them) and do nothing to improve the quality of content. Same applies to signatures which waste space and, like avatars, create clutter. At least we don't have to endure speech bubbles at forum index level.
