Wireless trigger for studio lights

Why buy huge studio flashes when I can achieve the same with a bunch of off camera hotshoe flashes?

that is like saying why use a transport truck, when I can use a bunch of pick-up trucks...
each light has it's use, but I suspect if you have to do a lot of shooting, you'll still be getting accurate exposures and fast recycle times off a decent set of studio lights long after your "bunch of off camera hotshoe flashes" are eating batteries and melting thier plastic lenses and popping capacitors....

a pro needs both, depending on the nature of the job.

Never a truer word spoken, I swear by Quantum products like batteries that give 1000 flashes per charge and recycle in under 1 sec.

It does depend on the job though. For example doing school portraits with hotshoe flashes would be daft as you would run out of power or blow the flashes up given the numbers and time constraints.

Where portability is key compact stands and hotshoe flashes win out. The 58s give me an average of 600 flashes on a single set of eneloops with recycle times under one second for most power levels. It only goes up when using anything above 1/4 or as the voltage drops (the real killer) and that is after a good 400 pops.

I'm thinking about buying trigger for my 500FTZ, does anybody know if Cactus trigger works with this flash? I found V4 on ebay but information doesn't say anything about 500ftz(everything apart of this one)

What can you say about RT triggers? Are they any good? Low price but is it worth?

If you can, get the V5s as they are greatly improved.

Don't see any reason for it not to work with 500ftz. I am sure there is someone out there that can verify this - or otherwise!

I'll be happy if someone can confirm that V5s or V4s works with 500ftz Unless RT's are good too.
I'm sure that V5s work fine with any studio flashes?

My Yongnuo RF603 triggers eventually arrived this morning
And they have sent the Canon version

Back to the drawing board ...

It should work as a remote OK. My RF-602's were marked as suitable for Canon and Pentax, so it may still work on flash. Test it it and see. Let us know what sync speed you get if it works.

Only the centre contact is used, and always in the same place for N, C or P !

Really ? was going to try it but did not want to risk my body. The trigger has five contacts, not opened it to check if they are wired but find it strange they would include them if they were not wired. Remember these are remote shutter release as well, although that won't be too much of an issue as the supplied cable is again canon fit (2.5mm jack, not PC).

You've got that wrong The Pentax remote release on cameras that have one is the same as the Canon. You can even use the Canon remote. They are all the 2.5mm jackplug. You don't even put the RF-602 (603 possibly same) in the hotshoe, just dangle it from the 2.5 jackplug lead. That lets you use the hotshoe for another flash trigger, even a different make.
