Get the XP Productivity Application add on from the windows download site. You can then run applications in XP mode.
It is included in the Professional and Ultimate version and was free for download from Microsoft when 7 came out. I can not promise that it still is free.

P.S. You could run a Dual Boot system with one boot that runs XP and one that runs 7.

I have run Windows 7 Professional 32bit for about a year now, but recently I reinstalled XP SP3. What a relief! Everything runs better and faster than under W7.
A dual boot is too cumbersome, because Murphy's law states that you are always on the wrong OS for the application you want to run.

run both as "administrator" using compatibility settings for XP SP2 and they will work. No additional software necessary.

I ran Win XP ( a great OS for many eyars ) on my previous machine ( triple booted 2x WinXP 1x Win98SE )
Lastr yeatr I finally upgraded and built a new machine. I tripled booted with WinXP, Win 7 64 and Win 7 32.
Win XP continues to run great, but I find Win 7 even better.

I have had Windows 7 Premium 64 bit since it came out on an Acer with i7 multi core processor and 6gb of memory. It runs all software superbly including Pentax's Digital Camera Utility 4 that came with my KX.
I think Windows 7 on a decent computer is the best OS yet.
I use Serif PhotoPlus for my day to day image work. All Serif's current software is Windows 7 certified, good value and British made in Nottingham!

'Everything', as in what, exactly?
There's one specific combination of Win7 x64, Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 3.5 compiled for x86 that causes pain and suffering, but that aside, I've found Win7 better than XP in every respect, having known and loved XP for many years.
Win7 is so much better than XP in so many respects, that any consistently bad experience has to be a long way off the beaten track.
Care to elaborate?

PS, As well as my main Quad 6600 box, I'm using Win7 at the other end of the spectrum on a very old AMD Athlon XP 2800+ system, just to put things in perspective. Even on that, it's much better than XP.

Well, Chris, where do I start?
Maybe it's just a feeling, but my computer boots faster and most applications start faster in XP than in Win7. (Running a 2.8 GHz Quad core processor with 4 GByte of RAM).
Power management in Win7 caused my system to freeze, having to reboot to get the desktop back again. With XP monitor switches off after the selected period, but wakes up with a slight move of the mouse.
My AutoCAD was not compatible with Win7, and I cannot afford to buy a newer version.
Having grow up with the varius DOS versions, through Windows 3.11, 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP, I have felt that I lost more and more control of the computer. In Win7 I am left totally in the hands of Microsoft's policy ("you better do it our way" sort of thing).
And my scanner would not be recognised in Win7, despite installing the latest driver.
Enough rant, me thinks

To OP, you said it is a Photo Editing software that comes with XP SP3...
Which one is it?!? Care the name it so we can help!? I am guessing that is Photo Gallery?

Canon refused to do a 64 bit driver for my Canon N650U scanner despite it being very similar to more recent models. They really don't seem to care about long tewrm support. (That's why I chnged to Pentax fo my DSLR upgrade) I downloaded Vuescan which not only drives the scanner fine but works better than the Canon software!
The issue for most is that badly written software for 32 bit sometimes doesn't work in 64 bit. That happens with progress and does require alittle pain!
I do graphic design, web design, magazine design and love my current set up with much improved productivity.

Terry, that is the strangest experience and completely atypical. For me Win7 was a dramatic improvement in operability and speed. Of course that might have something to do with the 8 cores and multi-memory chips.
But seriously... every old device and piece of software works just fine. My older Epson scanner plugged right in and said "hi". No need for 64 bit apps or drivers -- backwards compatibility means 32-bit works fine. I have one old piece of audio software I really wish they'd update since I'm not getting the multi-processor benefit I was looking forward to. But that is not Microsoft's fault.

btw - the Intel Core i7 cpus are easy and stable to overclock. I'vegot my i7 930 clocked at 3.8GHz and it runs really sweet.

I can sympathise with both sides of this discussion. When I migrated to Win 7 64 bit (Ultimate) I found the following:
- Many drivers were not available a year ago (this is changing fast - 64 bit is rapidly becoming the norm for new equipment sales, especially laptops).
- Some software will not even install, even in compatibility mode. I 'lost' the use of Photoshop v5 and a number of other less important programs, mainly games. (I bought Elements 8 to replace PS5).
- Some hardware does not work - I had a PixelView TV card. Now I just use iPlayer.
I also had an old Epson scanner, where Epson has no plans to release a Win7 driver at all (one can buy an OEM driver, but I decided to put that money towards a new scanner).
But...
- Win 7 (Pro and Ultimate) networking facilities, security and ease of network setup wipe the floor with XP (but the same can not be generally said for network capabilities in Win 7 Home Premium - a major mistake by Microsoft IMHO).
I do still like XP - I still have one PC on XP Pro (where I've moved Photoshop 5), but Win 7 is just a better, easier experience IMHO.
By the way, if you really want your PC to fly, buy an OCZ Series 2 SSD (Solid State Drive). With read/write at (up to) 285/275 Mb/sec, the OS loads like lightening! An 80 Gb SSD, with a conventional HDD to store the data, temp files and paging, is well worth a try.

I had no problem with this software but I have since bought another computer with Windows7Home Premium 64Bit. I cannot install this software on Windows 7. I know there is an updateentax Photo Browser 3 and Pentax Photo laboratory 3 but these updates have no effect on the windows software.
Can anyone suggest away round this problem.
