Win XP is very stable, as long as you have SP3 and all the security updates. In fact it is the best Microsoft OS up to and including the hateful Vista. Why do you think businesses kept it and not go to Vista?
However Win7 is in another league! Now that Win7 is on SP1, now is the time to upgrade.
I Still have XP on both my Desktop and Lappy, but an older laptop, I have put Win7 on it. The only thing it won't run is the enhanced graphics (or Aero as MS call it) However, with only 1.5GB RAM and only 32bit, it is far faster then my newer Lappy still running XP with 3GB RAM.
So much so, that my newer lappy will be upgraded to Win7 accordingly. It will even run 64Bit, which is faster still........

Agreed. I used XP for 9 years and it never crashed once!! Amazing. Ms Smeggy had Vista on her machine and it's awfulWin XP is very stable, as long as you have SP3 and all the security updates. I'm sticking to the 32bit Win 7 at the moment. Lightroom runs better on it than on my 64bit Win 7 partition.
