If you buy the K-x new you should get a 2 year Guarantee. I doubt if you will get much of a Guarantee on a SH camera and repairs are expensive, so I'd go for the new one even if it's slightly lower in spec.

thanks guys, pros and cons to both, I don't know, if the k-x had stayed at the £309 it was at a few days ago I would probably have got that today, but now it's gone up to £359 I'm hesitating a bit. Oh well I guess I will stay confused a while longer

SRS offer a 6 month warranty on second hand cameras. Why not give them a call?

I think I have decided to stick to getting the k-x now and I did try srs because they would be my first choice, but they are not selling it body only unfortunately and I really didn't want to buy it with the 18-55mm because I would just have to sell it again, I need a bigger zoom so I will probably go for the 50-200mm secondhand if I can get one, that's if I can find a k-x for a decent price in the first place of course.

Yep. K10D is muh better built, weather proof, has all thr AF points in view and a very good camera but it is quite a bit heavier than the K-x and the high ISO is nowhere near as good.

But you must at least handle a K10 before buying, Jacqui. No pig in a poke to be risked here! I love the substantial feel but as Mike says, it is heavy and quite large so may not suit everyone. I don't like the layout of the K-x, nor its general feel, although it is clearly a fine camera and, as Mike also says, capable of good results at high ISO.
But I am biased and not to be trusted when discussing the demerits of a K10. (Sometimes I get it out, just to hold it for a while and look at it. Which is very weird...)
Best wishes,
Andrew

I think it depends upon your field of interest. High ISO may not be needed. If your interests are portraiture or landscapes, then you shouldnt need the high ISO capabilities of the Kx, and the K10 would be better. If your into shooting bands/gig's, sport events, where you need to use High ISO's, in order to keep the shutter speed/apature at the right level's in low light. Then the Kx would be the better prospect.

Hi, my main interest is wildlife/birds and taking photos of my daughter's gigs/shows as she is a singer so high iso would would be pretty useful for that.

K-x v K10D
Tough choice.
Advantages of the K10D over the K-x
Fully sealed
dual dials
build
Great colour rendition from the CCD (as opposed to CMOS)
lit AF points
Pentaprism
TAv mode
Ability to have a grip
Advantages of the K-x over the K10D
Smaller
Lighter
Faster FPS
more resolution
AA batteries (might be a disadvantage)
ISO performance.
Like I say, tough choice.

jacqui,
go for the K-x as you need the high ISO for taking photos of your daughter in low light situations.
