"Wouldn't our cameras become much more exciting things to talk about again if we focussed more on what they offer us apart from just the images they record?"
What do you mean ? my very old K100d only records images... wont make tea ,walk the dogs ,or (round here anyway)impress the neighbours ...jeff..

Come on guys, stay with me. This is a Pentax forum - Pentax make cameras and related equipment, they are not a photography company! I've never said we should not talk about the images and IQ from the cameras - just that there is more to talk about with the cameras than just the images and IQ That could be more exciting!

My main point is that maybe K7 owners are valuing these other things that their camera offers more than the extra IQ that the current upgrade option would give them?

The point about the old film SLRs was simply to point out that historically it was these camera controls, options and features that was the 'exciting' bit, at least as far as the actual camera was concerned. (The IQ aspect was connected to the film products). I think that our top Pentax DSLRs still offer plenty of excitement and stuff to value in addition to their digital output and the numerics of their DR, IQ, noise response etc etc etc etc.

I'm upgrading all my lenses with red elastic bands and am considering some red "Go Faster" decals on the K-7

So anyway ... I think I have finally solved the question.

Why is nobody selling K7s?

Ouch. Hopefully it will fare better on eBay, where I eventuality had to sell mine (and got a reasonable price). Forum members are perhaps to aware of the 'issues' with the K7.

I liked mine, but there were moments when I was having to avoid shutter speeds of 1/40 to 1/125 (to avoid shutter blur) and ISOs over 800 (because of the noise) and was also restricted to apertures of f8 to f11 (shooting with the DA15mm) that I found it quite frustrating to use!

Response #1 Perhaps you should consider Lomography?

Response #2 Doesn't the "Current upgrade" offer the same thing, and more, than the K-7 even if you take out of the equation that innocuous feature known is Image quality?
