Why is nobody selling K-7s?

The only things these cameras have in common is the size and shape! The difference in performance, noise, DR and image quality, is light years. I have recently gone from a K-7 with which I took in excess of 100,000 photos to a K-5iis and the difference is staggering.
Oh come on guys ! When I bought my K7 Jessops had messed up their stock control and could only find an empty K5 box - and the K7 fitted in perfectly even all the accessories and cables etc were the same.
Now, the list of completely identical things between the two cameras is hugely longer than the list of differences.
The additional performance is significant of course, more so for those who will extract the most from it - but the reality is that it is basically the same camera - an upgrade in certain IQ respects, but the same camera in the vast majority of aspects.

I think the K7 appeals to the slightly 'hair shirt' mentality of some Pentaxians, and especially those who like 'working around' issues like shadow noise and limited dynamic range
Nail the exposure and images are great. But the later cameras are a revelation in terms of how exposures can be tweaked in PP without paying a price in noise.
The K7/5/5ii body design appealed to me initially as it looks quite refined and compact. But to be honest I am so 'over' those little cramped knobs and buttons - prefer the K10 layout with larger more spaced out controls, or the cleaner, more menu driven interface of the K30. And the metal body looks really nice and is durable, but your fingers freeze to it in winter!

Well ... this is just all so ... typical! All we ever get here is 'K5 K5 K5 K5'. It just won't stop will it?! And to cap it all that Rasta Alien thing keeps on appearing, again & again - you can't get rid of it, it just keeps coming back.
Well its time to fight back - for too long now this image has come to represent the height of high ISO performance perfection. The K7 needs to come into the race! I have been looking for something to put the K7 back in the fight.
Now I'm not really a portrait kind of guy - more gardens & flowers, that sort of thing. But I have found something that is the ideal combination - here it is - !! The K7 at ISO 3200 !!
Ok - so its 'only' ISO 3200. I know its not as 'wow wee' as 12000100 or whatever. But the shutter speed for this shot was a blistering 3200/sec! (That is fast).
I wanted to keep it even, so I kept trying to dial in that higher ISO, kept on pulling the dial. But it wouldn't move past 3200 - couldn't figure it out. Must be an item in the menus somewhere, but I'd left the checklist at home. Anyway, I thought I'd try a computer simulation of the shot taken on a K7 at ISO 12500 ....
Now thats very impressive I think - anyone who thinks its unusable clearly needs glasses - nothing a little tweak with some NR wouldn't sort .....

Any Pentax shot at high ISO in good light will show very little noise, start shooting in darker environments and banding will be visible and other artefacts not seen on the k-5 mkii / s or k-30 k-50 for that matter.

I said a while back I was going to upgrade my K-7 to a K-5.
Well, good news for me; I got an e-mail from Paypal telling me I received €383 from Getty Images for 1 image.
So now instead of upgrading to a K-5 I'm going to check out the K-5 II and IIs in more detail and see if it's worth splashing out for one of them.
For me the main appreciation of higher ISO would be for /low light/photographing night rugby

Here is a shot taken today with my K7, took it out based on the back of this thread to give it a real run out.
Shot manual, ISO100, would have been good to compare my K5 but was travelling light, however I reckon I am pretty pleased with this shot.
Will be hanging on to my K7 for a bit longer.

Nice shot Drew, well seen. At ISO 100 there's no doubting the K7's quality - it is at higher ISO's that it falls behind the K-5.
