Why is nobody selling K-7s?

Like all cameras, the differential between cost when bought and price now offered will have me using my K-7 until it dies. The same goes for my K-5.
I don't think the K-5II would improve my photography as much as getting a good quality lens or two.

Perhaps, but barely used K-5's are becoming very affordable now. There's no doubt it's a big step up from the K-7, particularly in low light, but I do tend to agree that the K-5II variants are worth saving for as they are so much better than the mk1.

You might be right - but lets remember you're only talking about the actual output. To all other intents & purposes what I've said is true. If you didn't ever look at the images from the cameras, but just used them side by side, you wouldn't be able to tell many differences, would you? There still remains some significance to that fact in terms of operability and the application potential of the camera.

I'm really making the point that at the particular life-cycle stages we're at it might be better in the longer term for a K7 owner to hold off in order to upgrade to a K5II when that model is available in a 'discontinued' state.

Now I think I need to sit down !

Just love Pentax Cameras - So still have my ME Super, LX, istD, istDS, K10, K20, K7 and K5.
K10 is used by my wife and the K20 is a backup for the K5. The istD/DS along with the K7 are resting in the camera cupboard in my office!

You could get a K-5 MkI now for an even better price. OK it wouldn't have an improved AF, but as a landscape chap do you really need snappy AF anyway

Nigel's a landscape photographer. Does he really need the improved snappier AF? A K-5 will MKI will give him much more dynamic range ( even at ISO100 ). I can't see the point of someone like Nigel getting a K-5 MKII. Either get a K-5 MKI at a great price or wait for the 24MP K-3 and spend a lot of money for those extra pixels and extra resolution. And hopefully extra Dynamic range.


A MKII would only ake sense of he was a sports or Gig photogrpaher ) or anything else where quick AF is required )

But I must be crazy too, because I often agree with Smeggy's observations, as I do in this thread.

For anyone who generally takes photos of things that don't move around very quickly, the K-5 is a great camera. Even for moving subjects, the Mark I's AF might appear problematic compared with the Mark II only in very low light. Its price new at SRS with a 2 year warranty is an amazing bargain, and even cheaper low-usage examples can be found on the Web. From what I have read regarding comparison with previous models, it would probably be hard to resist those deals if I still had only an older Pentax. Well being the owner of both a K7 and a K5ii. Unless you are in a low light situation. For all the bells and whistles the K5ii comes with. The K7 compares very favourably in picture Quality. A robust unit, that you could take to a war zone. We all know that above 800 ISO the K7 is absolutely useless but for me this is its only drawback. I often take both cameras out with me. Quite often Im surprised that the best image for the day comes from the K7. Its easy for people to crave and purchase the latest models. I agree that if someone was on a limited budget coming into photography. They could do worse than getting hold of a K7. At the current giveaway prices..

I always preferred the images I got out of the K7 at low ISO to the ones from my K5's, just something about the files, I could never quite put my Finger on it or reproduce it with anything else I tried, I expect the K20 was similar? I notice SRS have a K7 on the bay...

Not exactly cheap but you get a 12 month warranty though...

I'll bet SRS have a shed filled with p/ex K7s. I know that after I sent mine in against the 5ii during the £100 offer, I watched on Ebay for a bit and while they had maybe a half-dozen used bodies listed, I never saw one I'd recognise as mine...

Is it confirmed that there's a new camera model coming out in Septmeber?

I think I'll wait and see if that effects the prices of K-5 (2nd hand) and K5 II.

Not confirmed but all the rumour mungers (Me included) think so.
