Who has, will have a K-7?

I managed to get my hands on a K-7 for the first time this week, and it was great, a few nigles with the settings, but nothing that I am sure the custom menu won't deal with.

The sales assistent was also very complimentary of the camera.

I will be getting one (unless Pentax release a new model!) as soon as I can justify the spend with the other half!

Got me thinking, how many of us have or will be getting the camera?

Our problem is that we buy one for me and one for Sue. The consequence of that is that generally we buy when the price hits a low point. With the K20D it meant the upgrade from the K10D cost only about £100 per camera.

We might not be so lucky with the K7, but there will be some future deal that makes us move quickly.

At the moment we're more in need of longer lenses than 300mm and the choice is not brilliant. We're taking our time to get the right opportunity for the right lens.

My K7 arrived just over a week ago – quite an upgrade from the K10D. Haven’t had much opportunity to use it yet. Waiting for some slightly better weather to try it out with my DA*300mm (I know they are both weather sealed but I don’t fancy sitting out in the rain :roll.

Also splashed out on a DA*50-135mm at the same time so I had more opportunity to used that. I’m looking forward to seeing if Live View makes using my M400mm any easier than it was on the K10D.

Was next to "Greytop" when I picked mine up at SRS. Love it. No regrets and would find it difficult to move back. K-7 is perfect size and handling for what I want. But the single biggest issue that would make it hard to go back to earlier bodies for me is low light focussing - it nails this quickly on occasions when my other cameras would simply have given up.

That is the impression I got, though I would like to have tried it with my 16-50 though just to see! I don't think there is really anything not to like about this camera.

Had mine on pre order from SRS, when I first got it I used it as my second body to my K20 but now the K20 is in the draw and the K7 resides on the desk, hope it is dust as well as damp proof judging by my key board my desk is a dusty place.

I might be interested at some point, but it is likely to be when it has been superceded by the next model. I took this approach when getting one of the last new K10D's at the end of last year. Like John Riley's comment I am more interested in tracking down a lens > 300mm, most likely a sigma.

To me it all depends on how much use I give the K20D I only bought in July...

I said that I would bypass the K20d since I assumed it did not represent a clear upgrade on the already excellent K10D....How wrong I was...

I might be tempted by a trip to the dark side, before getting a future Pentax DSLR

I have the K10D, and as long as it does what it supposed to do, I won't upgrade. For my type of photography I just don't see any advantage.
I'll rather spend the money on some extra quality glass.

I am actually quite tempted by the new Canon 7D, if the 18mp sensor is any good at high ISO I can see my self having a good hard look .. mainly for the MP-e 65 macro lens as no one else does anything remotely like it.

If that were to happen (a big IF) then I would still keep my K10D and Sigma lenses until such times as the K-7 dropped to a daft price.

Can't see me doing anything until after Xmas anyway.

I've had my K20D for a year now, and looking at the K-7, and what i use my K20D for, theres not that much (other than 'toys' like the HDR and HD video) that I can truly say would give me an advantage over my K20D. Unfortunately, for that reason, I'm out.

You should see the effect of the announcement on Nikon forums, some think Nikon are now doomed while the rest think Canon are playing catch-up....

If I spend my money then it's the D700, I have all the Pentax gear I need for now

The 30% ruling was kind to me Martin, and someone was interested in my K10D...so in the past 12 months I have FA31, FA 77 and K20D

Isn't that exactly what the manufacturers do though, tempt us.

The spec. on paper may well be superb, but it's how it performs that counts and the 50D is/was not brilliant.

My brace of K20D's and my K10D backup body will last me for a few years yet. I'll start looking at the Pentax K-ASAD (all singing, all dancing) when it comes out in 5 years time to see how it compares but it'd better have Wi-Fi, focus stacking, dual card slots, Nikon killing AF, GPS, mind-boggling good noise immunity at ISO12800, and waterproof to 50 meters, or I'll wait some more years until it does.

Long wait I think.
