Not sure what other settings I could have or should have adjusted but decided to try out the in camera HDR feature. This image is "as is" and has only been resized for the forum (72ppi)
The lens used was the 18-135 mm WR lens

I it has a painterly quality and silvery tones which is all quite appealing. The HDR ' effect' is probably a little too obvious. For me the main issue is the halo in the clouds following the tree outline. It could probably be reduced in intensity with some healing brush work. The water is very good ... Making the most of the cool dull lighting. An interesting example of the camera process, thanks Stan.

Does anyone know what is happening with the "Image Sync" application for Android? It can no longer be downloaded from Google Play. Without this, the wi-fi feature is unusable.

Hi Everyone,

here my first thoughts on the K-s2
http://closhlab.com/blogwp/?p=109

However I had further time to play with the K-s2 now.

1. SR sounds annoying when half pressing the shutter, also: Do you know why it does the noise even when SR is turned off??? also I don't see much difference when the SR is On or Off. I'm thinking maybe my SR is defective and not turning Off, is it possible?

2. I struggle to get sharp images, when it's sharp, it's impressive, but it is one on 10, and I tried all kind of combinations/lenses/shutter speeds, maybe I'm pixel peeping too much.

3. Handling, nothing to do with the K-5 or similar range of camera.

4. AWB greenish or blueish , does not look as accurate as P-k5

5. Images are over exposed. the metering does not do a great job, I find myself to leave the camera on -0.7 to make sure I don't blow out the highlights, most of the times pictures look over exposed.

Can you tell me if you have the same feelings?

The SR mechanism is always powered up and holding the sensor in place but only actively reducing shake when 'enabled'

If you have to set sharpness to 10 to get a Sharp image, either your lenses are F/B focusing or the camera is faulty. When you say Pixel Peeping, are you zooming further than 100%?
Might be worthwhile posting a DNG sample shot at zero sharpness (neither negative or positive sharpness) for others to judge as well?

I took it to mean that '1 in 10' of his shots were sharp, as in well focused. Combined with the complaints about exposure and White Balance it's quite an issue. Are we dealing with a faulty camera here, or something else .... ?

closhlav, have you got experience with another DSLR camera with similar sorts of shots, that have been sharp, well exposed and with good colour balance?

McGreg,

I had the K-5 for about 4 years, and a sony A7.
I will post an example, sfortunately I sold my K-5 so I cannot compare, and compare a FF sony a7 does nto seem fair.

On the K-s2 I'm using all sort of lenses, FA 50 1.4 , Sigmao 30 1.4 , da* 50-135, sigma 10-20, and pentax DA 18-135 WR.
About the sharpness: I will do further tests and send you the original files.
about the camera overexposing and AWB not being very accurate: does it happen to anyone else?
It looks most of the times is more for internals photos/ tungsten or natural light.
here some examples:

When I had a review copy of the K-S2 I took it on location to a wedding shoot we were doing. It performed just as well as the K-5 in all sorts of difficult lighting, day or night. Looking at your images, the colour does seem a bit odd, almost blue/green in tone and the sharpness is not great. What the reason for this is I cannot guess, but I would start by doing a factory reset on the camera and then setting natural image style and shooting some outdoor JPEG images. You should get sharp, nicely coloured shots right from the start.

If you don't, then time to start looking at a processing problem or a camera fault.
Best regards, John

The colour issues remind me of some frustrating problems I encountered early when I started with the K7 ... Colour and saturation problems which took a while to sort out. It turned out to be a RAW processing matter ...

I did not realise that the vibrancy control panel I was using in Sagelight defaulted to a LAB colour mode, causing me to see certain tones as dull, and boost then accordingly. As well, I had cooled the colour settings on my monitor to compensate, so my images were being seen by others as oversaturated in yellow tones.

I agree with John, to eliminate any such processing issue, create a totally RGB colour space workflow from camera to internet, and see how that goes.
