Hi Everyone

Just wondered if anyone has seen this app for the iPhone and Android phones:

https://triggertrap.com/products/triggertrap-mobile/

It's free to dowload and when paired with a £25 dongle/cable purchased from Amazon you get an fantastic automatic trigger for your camera. Including trigger on sound, vibration, time-lapse and other fun stuff. Mine arrived this morning and a couple of hours of playing around I got this image.

As well as triggering the camera it can be used to trigger a flash gun which is how I got this shot. iPhone attached to a Yongnuo 560, set to 1/64 power. K-5 set to 2 second exposure in the dark and chucked the strawberry at the spoon.

It's and awesome bit of kit !

Which dongle/cable did you get? The site doesn't seem to be much help.

This is the one I bought.

cheers

Cheers! My research suggests that for those of us with Android handsets this product is a little under-developed as yet. Poor functionality compared to iPhone users.

Excellent shot Hullman.

By coincidence I downloaded the iPhone app (free) last night but haven't had a chance to try it yet (I was thinking of using it as a 'bird trap' and setting up a camera close to my target birds) so it's great to hear it works well. All the major cameras have dongles for them - go the the Triggertrap website to find yours.

As much as any other off-brand item used with a PENTAX that we discuss, surely? Sigma 10-20, Red Snapper tripod, triggertrap... It's all good from where I sit.

You can use Canon connectors with Pentax cameras, as Hullman's wonderful photo proves.

It looks an interesting app, but I'd have to get a smartphone or tablet first, so would be an expensive toy for me .

They sell dongles for Pentax bodies too:

edit - Gwyn's right. Looks like it's the same part as for the Canon. Which would make sense as it plugs into the same type 2.5mm cable release socket.

elfer - that is still basically a Canon connector.

Yup, you were absolutely right Gwyn.

Just to add though, in case anyone reading is thinking of buying, that Canon have two types of connector. We use the same as their Powershots and more affordable bodies (EOS 60D, 1100D, 1000D etc). Their larger price tag bodies (7D, 5D, 50D etc) use a proprietary connector that isn't compatible.

Will that trigger lightening?

They might, but remember that lightning triggers aren't too good. It fires the camera when it detects a lightning, but with shutter lag and so on, the actual triggering happens AFTER the lightning. If two lightnings are happening in close succession, you might be lucky and get the second one, but forget the first one.
