torchlight

ok I checked the article about the fake torchlight...if mine is fake is a damn good one...however I have some suspect it can be fake:

- as the article states they are getting better, everything is perfect, apart the fact that inside the contacts are made of copper and not alloy. The guy who sold me it, told me that it is because the torch is the 2010 model, while they started to use alloy with the 2012 model. I will investigate about it

- it turned out that the guy is chinese :/

- the lens did not come with any warranty, but I will ask about it

- the box, which is a very good one, has a serial number, but has also an infamouse CE...which could stand for Conformité Européenne, but it could stand also for China Export.

I will ask to Lenser more insights.

this is the item sold: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300928750364&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123

It is a fake. That seller is putting stuff up on 1 Day
auctions and usually selling for £20 inc. postage.
All the feedback is Private as far as the item is
concerned.

Put a claim into ebay for a refund, they already know that
the seller isn't Kosher.

I wouldn't be too bothered if I got stuck with it a lot of
people on the torch forum buy copies because they are half
price and perform the same as the genuine item.

I've ordered a Coast HP7.

why do you think the coast HP7 would be better than this replica?

It's up to you. The HP7 is more powerful and only has two settings FULL or LOW power (+OFF) With the P7 you only get FULL power if you hold your finger on the button (BOOST).

The HP7 is very white not blue like some LEDS, it's also got the best FLOOD of any torch I've seen, a very even disk of even white light.

my p7 turned out to be a very well done counterfeit (words from lenser guy), however P7 has 3 power states exactly like HP7.

If I get my money back I will have a thought on the HP7...have you ever tried the real p7 though?

Never tried the P7 but the HP7 was based on it and advertised
as an improvement. I looked at one in it's package in Maplins
yesterday, but it didn't look as nice as the HP7

It's actually what a torch should have been years ago. I never could
understand why they couldn't make torches that worked like spotlights
with an even light across the beam an no silly hotspots

On flood the HP7 is just like a wide spotlight very even across
the beam. I'll probably only ever use mine like that. I wouldn't
mind the headlamp version as well which costs £35.... I'd wear
it all day long

I got mine through a friend who deals with mountaineering shops, but
this one ebay for £39 looks good and it's in a box, mine was just bubble packed.

Sickening that in the US they can get the HP7 plus Headlamp torch
for £46 link

This ebay listing shows how good and even the flood setting is,
also how white the light is.

This is quite a good HP7 review...

Doesn't quite pick up how good the flood is though.

The P7 does have a problem of showing rings off the reflector
which can be annoying.

I have a FenixL20D, very compact and always goes in the camera bag. A head torch is pretty handy to have as well.

Just a quick test with the Coast HP7 on flood setting
held at the side of the camera and using daylight as a
fill so that the shadows aren't too dark. The HP7 is
very even.

Hmm, I'm not quite convinced they'd be bright enough for a real shoot, but guess these ultra-bright torches could be used as modelling lights?

I use the LED Lenser to aid AF in very dark conditions, such as underground tunnels that are hardly lit. But the exposure is always available light, with a tripod of course.

You could "paint with light" using an LED torch.

I got a partial refund of 12 pounds from the ebay seller for my counterfeit lenser.

I am not sure if to invest money on the coast torch or not, so I will think about it.

btw coast torches from US costs much less...why shouldn't I take it from there?

That makes it a cheap torch. There's something fishy about
the ebay one's Why haven't the sellers been removed?
Could it be that they are genuine after all?

You will have to pay import duties from the US plus
a courier fee for collection.

If you buy a Coast torch from a genuine seller it has a 5 year
guarantee.

Unless you need the FLOOD the torch you have should do.

Lenser notified ebay which probably already removed the seller.
It was not genuine, Lenser guys checked it for me (that's why I got the money back).
However I have to say that the construction quality is excellent, but I am not sure about the quality of the light itself (quite important for photography).

The Coast torches from US are noticeably cheaper...if they are not copies and the courier fee is not too much, it would make sense to think about it.

If I was buying from the US I'd get the double with the headlamp.

The Cree LED's are so much brighter than others I'm sure that part will be genuine. Shouldn't be too expensive anyway.
