I do, it was Amin

I believe after writing some letters his ban was lifted the same day.

If you PM me your mail adress i'll send you what happened, some other forum members already do, not sure if you were included.

Absolutely. And I accept that. However, I can go to the replay and judge the situation by myself. I can decide whether it was the right decision, an obviously wrong decision or a close call that was difficult to make.

No replay here, I have to take the referees word that his decision was right. Quite a difference, don't you think?

Suppose I take the view that it really doesn't matter one jot what I might think about a decision made by someone else about another party on this, an internet Forum.

In this context I'm with the great Rhett Butler in 'Gone with the Wind' -"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn".

There are far greater injustices in the world that we really should get vexed over, aren't there?

Absolutely right. I would have thought, though, this is not the place to discuss those issues. Am I wrong?

Ralf,

Tim didn't get banned for 7 days until he had earned that ban.
Well, having seen the thread that has been cited as the reason for that ban I doubt that very much.

Ralf - you didn't see the PMs though did you? You don't know what went on between Tim and the mods. No one apart from them really knows what happened, and nor will we due to PMs being just that private messages.

I have no doubt that it is something that happened behind the scenes which resulted in the 7 day ban, not the initial thread.

It is what then went on this forum, and elsewhere that earned him the permanent ban.

Let it go. All this is doing is flogging a dead horse. The Mods aren't going to change their minds, and even if they did I doubt Tim would return.

The moderating on the forum is relaxed and permissive generally, and long may it stay so.

That's not my experience...

Although yes they are permissive but not at the right moments...
Do you remember the political avatar off Pauly i believe, i still wonder why that dragged on so long.
And John then simply said he didn't had a formal complain so he couldn't do nothing, even though there was a whole thread dictated about it...
A personal experience was that George make a joke about a train crash but sadly he used a photo of a recent train crash in Germany, so it had a bit of a different effect than being funny, that didn't got deleted but the normal photo i posted in another thread off a train did got deleted. We were talking about trains and i wanted to show one.
I think it was in the pointless thread but ain't sure anymore.

I know that no one is perfect but it doesn't really look that things are measured evenly sometimes.

I think this is the problem when moderation becomes identified solely with one individual. The flip side of that is that we can't complain about it whithout feeling mean to that individual, particularly if otherwise we like and respect them. What I would personally like to see is an agreement from the mods that it will take unanimous agreement of all the PU moderation team before entire threads are deleted, unless they are offensive or flagrant breaches of the forum rules and there is a clear reason to delete from the site immediately. (Tim's thread does not fit in this category).

I also think it's best for a mod not to delete posts within a thread which he is actively participating in - ask another mod to step in. Presumably even mods are human and in the heat of the moment the temptation to delete posts which present the other side of an argument you are having must be hard to resist.

I didn't read anything by the mods that the ban was due to conduct in PMs. Did I miss that bit? Aren't we led to believe that the ban was due to repeated inadequate postings to the forum? Nothing to do with exchanges in private.

It would be easy for JR to say that Tim has personally offended him in PMs by writing something or other. He didn't. He just made mystery comments that if he would be allowed to show PMs we would all understand. No description of what Tim did or did not voice via PM.

If someone offended me via PM it wouldn't really breach confidentiality if I said "xy offended me in a PM by calling me an idiot", would it?

So it seems to me that the mods are not playing with open cards and that leaves a sour taste. Especially since it seems out of character for Tim to act in such ways. (Though reading Gwyn's post it seems that some members of this forum think that Tim showed some bullying behaviour; I personally haven't seen anything bullying from him in this forum or other fora).

I'm sure many of us do, we are not going to find out whats gone wrong here no matter how long this thread continues, love em' or hate em' the mods do a good job on this forum and in my opinion get it right for the majority of the time (no ones pefect) but on the occasion they do get it wrong there is no reason for any user to go overboard and fly of the handle, which it would appear is exactly what Tim has done.

I have never thought John to be over zealous in moderation and likewise never noticed Tim to be the alleged bully. I think its time to get on with things, give John the benefit of the doubt and wish Tim all the best for the future.

No they don't John. They get remembered for a long long time. I know this from running my own forum that every action you make as a moderator all adds or substracts to your reputation brownie points
No, such things are NOT forgotten.
And next amok-s follow so easily because old "cases" are not forgotten.

And old (banned or just left) members are not forgotten either.

If the members are expected to act like grown-ups, then there is no need to take the role of teacher while communicating with them. It will just end up with fight.
I can see it even on my children (10 & 7 y) - if I start to teach them like kids, they act like that.

PUF really has lost lot of its positive side after several bannings and leavings. And it has lost several really valuable members.

I have tried to keep myself out of different stormy pages. Couldnt do it this time.
Sry for adding to this ....

PM-s cant be a reason for banning! These are between two persons. PM-s do not harm forum.

Or maybe I could dig out some offensive PM(-s) sent to me as well - and mod-s will kindly ban the sender(s)? Of course, I hope you will not mind, if I do not reveal what the msg(s) was (were) about. Even not to the mod. Being confidential you know

Ahh... it is really childish fight ...all this ....
