There has been plenty of discussion, quite free disucssion as well, but eventually if it just carries on maybe it's just being stirred for the sake of it. Then it needs to stop.

You have a PM in reply to yours, please take the discussion there as I have invited your opinions.
Best regards, John

This is exactly how things escalate. I suppose the thread will be frozen, and with the obvious place for discussion removed, the rancour will pop up on other threads all over the forum, or simmer under the surface waiting to come out again.

Instead of complaining here you can write an official mail to the managers of this forum.

No it isn't. Just as you don't ban people for no reason, we aren't making an effort to discuss the direction of the forum just for trolling kicks either.

The more you keep sweeping stuff under the carpet the more it gets stored up and eventually blows, as it did with Tim and Robbie.

I appreciate that the moderator's role is a thankless one, John, and can even understand your emphasis on confidentiality (though IMO the absence of any proper explanation is self defeating here).

The problem is on available evidence my (and others') impression is that the initial 7 day ban was an over-reaction and has resulted in the loss to the forum of one of its most active and valuable contributors.

I fully agree. I guess that if enough members do that, the matter will be reviewed. And if wrong was done, it will be corrected. What is the point of going on with this thread?

I think the point that several people are making here, Giorgio, is that some things are better done publicly and not by PM.

Like everybody else here, other than JR, I don't know what transpired. I can guess that Tim reacted badly to something, and the whole thing spiralled out of control. It is very easy to get upset and to behave irrationally if you perceive you have been treated badly, whether or not your perception is correct.

What I find disturbing is the assumption by a number of posters that JR has not acted with propriety and goodwill. I have "known" JR for longer than anybody else who has posted here, and I have experienced his moderation. It invariably commences in the most gentlemanly and civilised manner, to which sensible people respond, and things go no further.

Although there are other mods, JR shoulders the burden almost alone. It is a heavy burden at times, and he is only human.

A few years ago, the forum was a more gentle place, and moderator intervention was rare. There were then a number of spats, and the moderation became heavier. I suspect this was driven by the owners of the site, not by JR himself. He is in the middle here, and we should remember that.

To sum up: I also am sad to see Tim go, but I am confident that he could have averted his fate had he chosen to try and see things from both points of view.

As I now see it Tim has had his say via the blog so I cannot see why his pm's to John cannot (on this occasion) be posted on the forum so that we may see both sides of the story. If he is happy for this to happen then he can no doubt contact someone on here to give the go ahead and if not we can only presume there is more to it than meets the eye.

Either way this sorry saga will be cleared up and we can stop going round and round in circles.

As for the blog ... Danny, a lens has really changed your life?

Having just read JamieT's post then we all must be ashamed of this.

I have only just come into this and cant fully comment. However Tim will certainly be missed and i dont think that the Forum can afford to lose members in any case, particularly for what seems to be on the face, a triviality, and over reaction. I think that JR and Tim should 'kiss and make up' and like grown ups should act, lets this pass and be forgotten. I guess it could of been avoided had the post simply 'have been moved by JR.

Tim if you stay away it is the forums loss......

You're right I have read a lot worse, but usually from 15 year olds commenting on youtube videos.
