The Sigma 150-500

I went down to LCE (Bristol) and ordered a Sigma 150-500 the other week and all seemed well till today when I checked my telephone messages.

As Tom at LCE explained in his message,in the shop he demonstrated a Sigma 150-500 on a Canon as he didn`t have a K mount at the time. The Sigma that he used has Image Stabilisation.Apparently, the Sigma with the K mount doesn`t have "IS" although as we all know, both my K10D and K20D have "Anti Shake".

The dilemma I have now is that apparently Sigma are about to announce (in the next few months)a 150-500 with a K mount with "IS".

So,am I going to gain from both IS systems or are they going to conflict each other?

you can only use one at a time, people say in the lens sr is better, i dont agree i think it makes the images soft due to glass moving in the lens, also makes them heavier and dearer, the good thing is you can see the sr working in the eye piece,
i hve the 150-500mm with os in another mount and find it good but no better than pentax sr(i prefer it in body)

You just turn one or the other off. Both appear to be on a par. My 150-500 has no IS, however the 18-250 does but i just use the Pentax version and leave the lens off.

I don`t think so...he demonstrated the 150-500 and I watched him write 150-500 in the order book.

I'd go with the older non IS model and haggle out a deal or wait for the new one to be released ans see if there is a price drop on the older one. The anti shake in the Pentax works well so do you really need a lens with IS in it ?
I have to agree with you on that one Gareth and see your point,I`m more than happy with the IS on my Pentai/Clickery (both of mine).Think I might wait a month or so afteral,my Tamron did me fine at RIAT last year so it can do me for another this years event.

Hmmmm...this is interesting

http://www.nextag.co.uk/Sigma-150-500mm-f5-1506272382/uk/prices-html

Just read the description AND it`s apparently got Optical Stabilisation already...thinks me needs to go and have a chat with LCE.

There is no OS on the Sony or Pentax mount as its not needed. I know that future lenses from Sigma will have it on all mounts but I find it odd that Sigma would change the current Pentax mount to OS for no real reason.

That's why I was aking if they havent got muddled with the newly announced 50-500mm.

Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens - Pentax Fit The Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM ultra-telephoto zoom lens for Pentax DSLRs covers a telephoto range up to 500mm and allows photographers to bring the subject close with short perspective. Sigma s original OS (Optical Stabilizer) function offers the equivalent of using a shutter speed approximately 4 stops faster. It is ideal for sports, wildlife and landscape photographers, especially those who prefer to shoot handheld.

...gunna pop in on friday and have a chat with Tom,he seems a starightforward type of guy and the price he`s quoting ain`t far off the prices in the banner showing on here.

OK, one last time

SIGMA 150-500mm. Go down to af mounts.

Sigma, Canon and Nikon mounts have OS ... Pentax and Sony do not.
