whether people buy the kenko is irrelevant to Pentax, other than an increase in cctv lens sales if it does sell. (odds are used one on evilbay will start moving)
Would I buy this camera for me? nope.
But my little boy does spend an aweful lot of time video taping his cats and constantly bugs for the iphone on trips so he can take photos too...
the video cam he uses is a toy and quality sucks, the iphone always comes back undamaged...
might be a wonderful Christmas present for him.... if it is less than a g12 in price.... and comes close in image quality...

Well, Robbie, let's have a look at your assertions.
The first paragraph contains another dig at me. Fair enough. After all, when his master stumbles, the jackass will bray.
It also makes the entirely erroneous assertion that people are saying that Pentax doesn't make a very long lens because it "isn't what people really want". Nobody has said that. It's the number of people who would be prepared to pay the necessarily high price that is the issue. Not a hard concept to grasp, surely.
The second paragraph is largely conjectural, but compares an item with a tiny potential market with a mass-market device, and pretends there is some sort of inconsistency. These are two utterly different things, and have nothing remotely to do with each other. And, contrary to your apparent view, Pentax's understanding of the mass market is not entirely flawed. Coloured cameras have been a big hit. Having said that, I concede that Canon has always been better at selling to the ignorant.
The third paragraph seems a little bitter. Perhaps you are miffed that you jumped ship just before the K5 came out. Can we look forward to you re-embarking, and giving us the pleasure of your company more often?
And the fourth and fifth paragraphs are hugely conjectural, especially as regards pricing.
The only paragraph I can't argue with is the last, where you have trodden new ground by being factual, at least in the first sentence.

George, really, I thought from the way that you talk to others on here that you had thicker skin. If it's going to upset you so much I'll not mention the Unicorn lens again.
Re: the "entirely erroneous assertion" I was merely compiling the various reasons I have seen on this very forum that Pentax do not currently offer a long telephoto lens. These have all been discussed fairly recently, if you use the search function I'm sure you can refresh your memory of them.
I realise too, that sufficient people would have to want to pay the "necessarily high" for a project to be worthwhile. My employment requires me to be able to grasp such outlandish concepts. You do seem intent that the price would have to be high, no doubt as a result of some intensive market research to determine a reasonable approximation of sales units, and a project costing plan that outlines the resources required to make such a lens a reality. If you could share this research I would be eternally grateful.
Regarding my second paragraph I don't see it so much as comparing "an item with a tiny potential market with a mass-market device", more-so two items which would be selling in a camera/electrical goods shop, potentially at broadly similar prices, and the main purpose of which (taking photogrpahs) is the same. Saying they have nothing remotely to do with one another is a little misleading George, and a statement which is seemingly fuelled by trying to pick holes in my argument than trying to put forward a reasonable argument yourself.
Third paragraph. Not bitter at all, just bemused that people tend to assume that large corporations will only make the correct decisions, when history tells us otherwise. All I will say is "New Coke".
With regards being "miffed" at "jumping ship" before the K5 came out, you're beginning to show your conjectural side George. As it happens, the K5 was not/is not in my budget. I'd have thought a man as informed as yourself would have known this form the threads that surrounded my "jumping ship". Had I still been with Pentax I'd still have the situation of the K5 being too expensive. Non-issue.
With regards re-embarking and giving you the pleasure of my company more often, last time I checked the name of the forum wasn't Pentax Owner.
Fourth and fifth paragraphs. I agree, it is hugely conjectural to think that a Jessops employee might push another brand harder than Pentax based upon very selective communication of certain specifications. How dare I suggest such a thing.
Apart from these matters, I really enjoyed your post George. Keep up the good work.
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

That's the real kicker for me Don. Whether people here think it will be a comparable product or not, comparisons will be drawn to cameras like the G12, and not being a "big" brand it will have to go over and above the competition to get people's attention and make them put their hands in their pockets (as the K5 seems to have done).
As I've said, I hope it proves me wrong, but I'm not confident it will at this stage.

I fail to see how selling off an entire system (presumably for less than what you paid for each item, unless you're that guy selling pictures of cameras on ebay) then buying another system could have been less costly than waiting for the k5 and only selling off your old body to offset some of the cost of the k5....and keeping your lenses and flashes... maybe everything you bought was used? I dunno.

Don, to be fair I didn't have a huge collection of kit, I sold it all at a minimal loss, and could replicate the lens collection today for the same or less than what I received.
I hope that answers your query and dispels the thought that the post was merely an attempt at trolling.
I'd also like to assure people I'm not the guy selling pictures of cameras on Ebay. I have a 100% rating, which I believe is a good indication of the way I treat people that buy from me.

I currently use a Samsung-badged istDL. Unless the rules of the board have changed, I always assumed users of the "sister" cameras were welcome.

I did sell off all my Pentax gear. The Samsung is my Mums, bought from user on this very forum. A fine camera and one which I will be using to take the first picture of my first child which is due any day now.

That's before we even get into tooling to make the rather generic looking lenses actually aesthetically pleasing and congruent with the look of the camera (lets not forget the cameras that this would be competing with tend to major on slick design).
Re: sensors, whilst in exceptional cases a smaller sensor can outperform a larger one, you would have to admit that typically, for sensors in the same tech generation, the larger sensor will perform "better" (whatever that might mean). That's before we even get to the big issue. People are willing to accept a smaller sensor because with it comes (usually) a smaller body. What we are looking at here is a body which could be as large as the smallest M4/3 bodies, with a sensor smaller than the enthusiast compacts out there.
Baffling really.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love Pentax to launch the mother of all mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras and I love niche cameras. This system, however, just seems to me to be on a hiding to nothing.
