Are they taken as in camera B&W?

This is first class mono work with lovely contrast. I'm with Gary, #3 is my favourite.

These are indeed lovely images, Andrew. What I like most about the PU forum is that it's so frequently inspirational - I went to Lanzarote (and Teguise) last February, took loads of photos and it never occurred to me to try any mono shots. I certainly will next time! Coincidentally, we had a session on B&W photography at my local group last week which made me appreciate more how B&W makes you look at images in a totally different way.

I've never been able to ' visualise' in mono (I find the squinting thing hurts my eyes) , but I can appreciate how the toning is revealing with these images .... As all said before it brings out the textures and contrasts, which become more abrupt, sort of graphical blocks beside each other. And you've kept just the right amount of highlight detail that gives the feel of the surface but with the starkness of brutal light as well.

Do we have to ' think' in mono now anyway. .... ? The sensor doesn't, and everything we take has to be ' converted' from its colour original form. Does that not mean that we can have both .... Don't think about it when taking them (no need for squinting), but just decide on the computer later ..... ?
