Split prism screen, please, please, please .......

Lenses
18mm/2.8; it's so odd that there is no AF replacement for the old 28mm. 15mm is far too wide and 21mm is probably slightly too long.

Seems that as far as lenses go longer and cheaper glass is desired.

I'll agree with that, use the older lens construction with a light, cheapish plastic body/mount and watch them sell!

I'd go for a 28mm, 50mm, 135mm and 200mm in the 'budget' range.
Cheers, HG

K110+DA40, K200+DA35, K3 and a bag of lenses, bodies and other bits.

Mustn't forget the Zenits, or folders, or...

PPG entries.

Seconded! OK so there's KatzEye but it would be nice to have the option of a Pentax one that works with spot metering.

But isn't that the problem? You're asking for the AE Metering sensor to be moved below the focus screen.

I know it currently affects spot metering. But not to the degree that it's unusable. So Pentax could easily add corrections for it in the firmware; e.g a menu option where one can select the type of screen that one is using (split prism or normal).

Note that I don't expect Pentax to add options for all the different brands, just for a Pentax split prism.

However, I might see it too simplistic.

How about they produce the same (or a similar) effect in the viewfinder electronically.

I use liveview a lot for focus confirm, but I don't like holding the camera like that, and the way it's set up is a pain. At least let us enlarge the central part of the image leaving the rest unaffected, Pentax.

The Refconverter lets you switch between 1X and 2X and looking down isn't really a problem.... just like 6x6 really. Very accurate for MF.

People are asking for split screens, but no one bothers checking how accurate they are I'm 100% sure they won't ever be introduced again on a camera.

I would hope that a new camera with interchangeable viewfinders would be Pentax's official foray into the EVIL market... one model up from the k5... I'd love the idea of being able to pull the pentaprism off the camera and having two or three different types of viewfinders to attach... a waist finder lcd, a video type evf and your choice of penta mirror or penta prism finders....

you just buy the base camera for a low price and buy which ever finders/viewers you want, slide out a plastic cover and slide in you preferred finder.

Well it would be pretty easy to check. it's having the right shims to correct any errors that's not so easy. Unless you can buy a shim set.

And then wouldn't different lenses give different results like the AF module?

It's a lot easier than that to check a split screen. Put it on a tripod about 3 ft high. Focus on something vertical say a gap in a door/frame. Tilt the camera/tripod to the top of the door. If it still shows it's in focus..... throw it in the bin

Ahh you mean the split screen has a wide DOF if it's faulty?

I was thinking getting the distance to sensor, distance to screen exactly the same

No I meant a Split Image Screen isn't very accurate. I've never used it on film for that reason. I always focus on the plain part of the screen.

You could also confirm this by focusing on a box about 1m away from the camera with the split screen and then moving the box 50mm backwards/forwards and it will probably still line up indicating that it's still in focus according to the split screen.

Full Frame
Better AF Accuracy in low light
Flash Time up to 1/250 or even more
X-synch connection
Flash Metring on board
Matrix Metering (the only thing I really would steal from others camera manifacturers)
