Can "My Shutter Count" be fooled?

Or have I got a bargain?

A few years back I bought a damaged K10D and heave learnt to deal with its limitations, but it does slow me down, meaning I struggle with Rally cars or aircraft etc.

I decided to watch for a cheap one on Ebay and got one this week for £69. Full kit, boxed, with original accessories. The seller said it has been used only once (some of the accessories are still in their plastic). But, this is an older model so I didn't quite believe it.

So, I took a photo and uploaded it to "My Shutter Count". The result? 620 operations!
So, it's either been clocked, or I've got an almost new K10 for £69!
Am I really that lucky?
Getting there! Thanks to you guys

Yes it does happen. I bought a camera on the bay once that was marked as spares only. All that was needed was a two minute sensor clean.

I think there was a thread on here a while ago about brand new boxed cameras with various levels of shots on them.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
It maybe left the factory with 500 shots or so.
The previous owner took a hundred or so first time out then put it away for a few years.

If that's the case, then I did get a bargain. I've seen others on ebay with 5000 + operations, body only for £140 ish.
