Somebody say dogs?
Time for Stink Tank to be re-ignited!
--------------
Why not ban children from parks during the hours of daylight in school term time? Haven't they got homework to do or part time jobs? They can't be sent up chimneys but working at Tesco is fine.

That water feature reminds me of the Princess Di one in London.
You think the Scots are paranoid, when we were there they had LIFE GUARDS and a ban on playing in the water!
In fact one family were removed from the area for dangling feet in the water on a hot summers day!
When will these public bodies learn that we, as humans, have rights which can not be violated BY LAW?

Meanwhile in France any large public fountain/pool becomes an impromptu paddling pool on hot days...
I would dearly love to see the paperwork if you refused to stop dangling your feet in the water of a publicly accessible fountain and just sat there calmly refusing to move.

Just been reading this whole thread - the council's attitude is ... uhm ... baffling, to say the least. If I were you, TT (or Mr S.), I'd send an email to the council every 1st of a month, informing them that I intended to visit the park and take pictures on the
1st
2nd
3rd
4th
etc.
throughout the month
to take pictures.

In the 'current climate' to use an official phrase I think you could safely turn up with your camera in the park and start happily snapping away with little fear of being challenged. Public spending cuts will mean massive jobs losses so there just won't be any park keepers to interfere and police officers will be far too busy dealing with far more serious matters to be concerned.

In Bradford the Park Ranger Service is under manned, under funded and over worked!
Still, we try and HELP THE PUBLIC where we can and provide a service that seems valued in our community.
Unlike the Scottish council we welcome visitors and photographers. The only time we stop people is for a talk about kit and where the best views are.
Come to Bradford and enjoy our parks..

Bradford seems to be one of the more enlightened LAs, I'm sure there are others too. Lets hope councils keep employing helpful people like you HG and get rid of the jobsworths.

I had a lot of fun taking pictures in the park at our work's picnic. In fact not only did we take pictures, we *consumed alcohol* in blatant disregard of the signs put up by the council!

Dear God in heaven! There's a, a, a,... I can hardly bring myself to say the word, child in this picture. I do believe she is playing. Have you no shame? And this not even an adult forum.

We have made it clear to Mr S........... that he can take photographs of wild flowers, plants trees fungi , wild animals in the parks ,scenery including statues, buildings or other items of interest and had he made it clear to us just what he wanted to photograph in the first place , this permission would have been given then. The council, as park owners, has the right to regulate park use. Section 112 of the Civic Government ( Scotland) Act 1982 give the Council the authority to make rules known as management rules to allow it to govern its parks
I'm normally very reluctant to make any law-related comments on forums, but I can't resist. Any authority they have under s.112 of the Civic Government Act is subject to ss.3 & 6 of the Human Rights Act 1998:We have made it clear to Mr S........... that he can take photographs of wild flowers, plants trees fungi , wild animals in the parks ,scenery including statues, buildings or other items of interest and had he made it clear to us just what he wanted to photograph in the first place , this permission would have been given then. Does imposing these draconian restrictions on photography in a public place violate any of the Convention rights? (most likely art.10 freedom of expression) Somebody probably knows but I don't, since I'm not a human rights lawyer or a human rights scholar.

I can see that would make for a long and expensive bit of litigation.

Surely it would be worse if someone went into a park and attacked a child rather that took a photo? I've never yet heard of a council banning adults from going into a park which would be safer than just banning adults with cameras. Is it that they don't want to look silly?
What about adults with dogs? I would assume pedos have dogs and even if the owner isn't a pedo the dog could be dangerous..... but still not banned.... only if they have a camera.
