(BTW, FYI, I haven't had any posts deleted around here, I know what are the limitations of my freedom of speech, and NO, in a democratic society you have to commit a crime before you are convicted for it; a moderator has no right over one's opinion, if this is within the boundaries of decency and respect.)
I would also like to point out that this is a public forum and considerations have to be made for everybody. Freedom of speech could/would get abused if we were all allowed to say what we want all the time. This isnt my forum, its not yours either. Its somebody elses and we all have to respect their values. Surely you can see that.

I'v only had one topic removed on this forum, when I moved over to Canon some members on here requested some Canon 50D shots to compare and to C+C, it was removed by John within a few min's.
So some topics are removed for other reasons and not just heated discussions.....

Indeed, you see there is a forum policy for some things, and one of those is that it's a Pentax User forum, for Pentax and general photography purposes, but not other marques.
Other things that tend to disappear are certain pharmaceutical adverts and posters who are promoting some commercial enterprise unconnected with photography.
However, in the general run of things not much gets deleted, and it can always be put back if the situation changes for some reason.
What we can't do is have a debate over every deleted item, which as we have seen here quickly becomes a bit ridiculous. I understand that feelings run very high sometimes - it's the price we pay for the ability to have instant feedback and interaction.
Just imagine this conversation by letter post. It just wouldn't happen.

Another female's thoughts. Taking offence is a responsibilty. You can choose to or not. I know people who, if the wrote as they spoke would likely cause offence. Knowing them and seeing their smile and teasing look negates their manner. Sometimes you have to look between the lined written and see the intention. I think John has a gift here in recognising where the boundries lies but he is not infallible. Lets give John credit for hearing the raised voices and returning to the thread and agreeing that it can continue. Thoramay

It's important for everyone to understand that only Canucks from the east coast are "crazy" and likely to contravene forum rules. Canadians from the west coast are universally mild-mannered, self-effacing and a credit to their Anglo-Saxon heritage. Just check out any British Columbia logging town on a Saturday night to confirm this.Everybody should know that Italians (and French Canadians) have Latin blood. My father-in-law lives in Quesnel, B.-C., and I've seen what you call "mild-mannered, self-effacing" Canadians from Anglo-Saxon heritage. On a Friday evening, there is not much difference between them and a full Canuck. I've had as much fun on the West Coast as I've had in French Québec. By the way, I'm flying to Prince-George on the 4th of July. If you're around there, maybe we can meet?

Hi Yves,
Have a good time in Prince George. I've never been there but know many people who have and they all left with a hangover for some reason. It sounds like fun. Unfortunately, I won't get any closer to PG in July than Aberdeen in Scotland, where I now live, but I'd love a trip to Montreal. I'll certainly look you up if I get there.
Cheers

I nearly died from Canadian hospitality in the backwoods of Cape Breton Island NS; my hosts plied me with moonshine cut with Scotch from a Johnnie Walker bottle. Had I just taken that badly ill for 3 days I would have gone to hospital but when you discover the reason... The only mitigating factors were it turned out to be made by Indian Johnny and we were playing a game called 'caps'. Ring any bells Canucks?
I'm glad this thread has now gone completely off topic and there is an end, now, to a lot of the nonsense above.

Yet I believe we have photos in the gallery taken with a Nikon?

Gosh, how happy I am to be German. No one ever would say anything against the Germans!
Probably because we are always so well mannered, especially when we are abroad.
(At least as long as no one mentions the war.)

I've left the computer for 4-5 hours and come back to 3 extra pages of stuff. Great conversation going on here.
Matt, a couple of considerations:
When you talk about other people, and other people's attitudes towards you in particular, try and be informed, and provide information in the correct way. What I have written to John was absolutely justifiable in our conversation, had you read it, perhaps you would appreciate the non-offensive nature of my remarks.
Furthermore, please, don't quote only what you like - quote the whole post if you are trying to make a point about how rude I have been to you.
I would never use program mode, and would also learn something about how a camera works....
but this is just me.
ANyway dont use ISO higer than 400 if possible. Look at this video and try to understand the settings - applying them to the on-camera flash. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NEmufNi70w
Good luck
And just to clarify, the sentence that so much upset you was a perfectly legitimate one. I have learnt photography before I bought a camera, and learnt the manual before I used the camera. I, therefore, don't find that sentence in any way offensive (that's the 'but this is just me' part)
But I understand that you, in your country, with your polite manners and great sense of moderation, surely would be offended by this disgusting italian way of doing things. I Britishly apologise for any offence I have done to you. Can I still stay in your country, and pay my 35% tax?
