SRS Open Day - 9th October

Having had 2x pre-production K-7s, I can confirm that there was no auto focus, no manual controls (ie ISO etc.) or anything else 'missing' in the 2 models I had the privilege of testing.

What I saw for video in those 2 models is exactly what I got in my retail version.

If you use lenses with aperture rings, you can change aperture whist filming. Not ideal, but doable.

Unfortunately/fortunately, my workshop is going ahead tomorrow, so no chance of going to Watford for a play.

Just back from SRS - Yep fell for it. £20 down on the K5 - Stunning. I think probably better balanced with the Grip attached. (Anyone got a s/h K7 Grip??)
The 645D is a lovely animal too but different can of fish and not for me. Nice to see the Pentax name on such a beast. (That's enough mixed metaphores)

Any hint of a release date?

Looks like it might be more a Christmas present than a birthday present .

I do wish Pentax would just come out and say when it will be available instead of this dithering and/or secrecy.

If you announce something and say it will be available from mid October than it should be available mid October, not late October slipping into November/December.

Rant over . Lack of camera is getting to me

The Guys at SRS had straight faces when they said it

Gwyn they seem to be pretty spot on with releases with cameras though, it's just the lenses

Has anyone tried photos at 1/180 or something like that of a second to see if the shutter blur is still there at that range?
Because the K5 has a higher FPS I think they have a new shutter so the shutter blur should be different, but that's only speculation

I can't say I noticed this problem with my K-7

Stefan, Pentax are never on time with releases. The K10 took forever from announcement to hitting the shops. The K20D was a bit better, but the K7 took it's time too.
It is truly a wonder anyone sticks around to buy them, especially in Europe.

Still the Nikon D7000 isn't out yet either so ditherers won't be switching just yet.

I am just going a bit nuts not having a camera of my own, so I really hope it comes along sooner rather than later. Even the compact I want isn't available yet .

Gwyn - you could go and buy a disposable one for the time being

I thought you said in the thread about the subject, that that might explain why you didn't had so many keepers with the K7 as you did with the K10D.

The actual number is around 1/80 to 1/100 for the rest the effect isn't that noticeable.

I've only witness the K200D, K20D, Km, Kx and the K7 and they seemed to be quite close to the release date as far as i remember.

MIGHT being the operative word.

After using the K-7 a fair bit more I decided it was just me thinking my panning skills were better than they were. Trying to shoot moving prop planes at 1/120 takes more practice than I have had.

It was after all the first day I had used the K-7 properly and the size/balance is totally different to the K10D.

When using the camera on non moving objects I just couldn't see any problem that I could say 100% was the K-7s fault.

As for Falk .. clever chap but far to much up his own ar** for me.

I bought one of the cheap Chinese jobs for the K-7 (which I have kept just in case) purely for the size/balance. Not as well made but did what I wanted it for.
