I'd love the 300. And the 77. Come to think of it the 31 too. And the 43. The 60-250 could come in handy. Nice purchase.
You can see some of my photos here if you are so inclined

Yes, very nice purchase and the wallet is still squealing.

I will let you know how it's going as soon as I can!

Suspect you got a good deal though, somehow John

Both buyer and seller were satisfied, so that equates to a good deal.

I'd love to see how theDA*300 and the DA*60-250 compare. I'm contemplating a big purchase. ( don't tell her indoors)

The *300 shades the 60-250 in both AF speed and sharpness .. not that the 60-250 is remiss in either area. However, of course the flexibility of the zoom is another matter all together and so I wouldn't say these lenses are mutually exclusive of the other ! Pentax. Pentax DA*300/4, Cosina 55/1.2, Lens Baby Composer Pro & Edge 80, AFA x1.7, Metz 50 af1.
Nikon. D800. D600. Sigma 500/4.5, Nikon 300/2.8 VRII, Sigma 120-300/2.8, Zeiss Distagon ZF2 21/2.8, Zeiss Distagon ZF2 35/2.0, Sigma 50/1.4, Nikkor 85/1.8, Nikon TC20EIII, Nikon TC14EII, Kenko x1.4, Sigma 2.0

That's my problem. I'd probably get more use out of the zoom but I'd really like the IQ of the prime. ( and the option of the 1.7 teleconverter)
I suppose I could always get the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 as well as the DA*300

...and a divorce
.........all the gear, no idea!
Me super, MX, LX, K5,DA 18-55WR, DA 17-70, DA 55-300, DA40 Ltd, FA50 1.4, Samsung D-Xenon 12-24,Samsung 100mm macro M50 1.7(x3), M28 3.5, M35 2.8, M100macro f4, M135 3.5(+others)

That is the way to go, buy them all together!
Actually this is gluttony on your part and for your penance, box up, lets say the Da*300 and ship to me at: ……………., my jealousy doesn’t count in this case!
Well done on getting a good deal on well cared for lenses; the wallet may feel it now, but you/it will have forgotten about that in a few weeks.

I'm rather surprised you didn't have any of these already John.

I lack the FA43 and DA*300, but one day, if the DA*400 isn't forthcoming I will go for the DA*...

My bet is that you'll like all of them, but you'll love the 77mm.

Keywords: Charming, polite, and generally agreeable.

What was the purpose of the original post? because I am struggling to see one...

Why are you struggling? I would have thought it was obvious that it would be interesting to have a good long look at three of the most legendary Pentax lenses to see if they match up to the digital era. Especially as they were designed for film.

The same may be true of the 60-250mm and 300mm - how good are they?

Are you not at all curious about these things?
Best regards, John

If they had been released a week or two ago, then yes John, it would be interesting, but as they have all been out for a few years and we've been talking on the forum about them for years I'm not curious at all.

Link Posted 01/07/2011 - 23:45
As it happens I am interested for various reasons, not least of which is whether or not the resolution and general optical qualities stand up to the rigors demanded by the K-5 sensor. There's only one way to find that out and I've been exploring it this week.

However, what I don't quite get is why bother to say you're not interested, you must be on some level otherwise you wouldn't have joined in the thread. I tend not to post in threads I'm not interested in.
Best regards, John

Well on a Pentax forum, it would be suprising if many members weren't interested in another member's opinions on some of the finest Pentax glass. Each person is probably going to have a slightly different take on these 'gourmet lenses'.
