SD Cards problem

Using K5 & K3ii. On the K3ii when I insert card message displays "no card in camera". All card types. BUT my shots are on the card, I can review them and copy to PC. I have re-formatted cards, reset custom functions on camera none of which has resolved this issue. Any ideas gratefully recieved. I have owned the K3ii from new.

Has the lock tab moved slightly on the cards ? otherwise it could be dirty contacts in the camera slot or a card that's just had it.

The K-3 II has two card slots, and I suspect what you could be reading is that there is no card in slot 1 or 2, whichever you don't have a card in. Meanwhile, the card in the other slot is the one the camera selects and is quite happily using.
Best regards, John

Thanks guys. Have tried using slot 1 or 2 and with both card slots occupied I turn camera on, everything shows as usual, card already in slot , no messages regarding card issue. Take my shot and the message "no card in the camera" appears. but, I can review my shot as normal and also download to PC. The only thing that I have done recently is purchase a new DA* 300mm and used it without any problem, I think the K3ii is due a hospital trip unless anyone can offer a solution. Regards to all in hope. John.

Tried the old 'reset to defaults'? It's in the C4 menu.

Thanks JohnX. Tried reset to factory defaults. Blown through slots. Tried the cards (and I have many of various sizes) no go. Tried them all in K5, they work as they should. Even tried re-formatting the card in the K5, again no go in the K3ii.

The only other thing I can think of is to make sure you have the latest firmware. Maybe refresh it even if you do. If that doesn't work then it sounds like a camera fault.

Well. Great joy in the household. Grumpy John has gone to be replaced by smiley John. Trial and error answer. Used slot one and 2 and despite have selected "use slot 1 and then 2" in menu Memory Card options the Memory Card options refuses to acknowledge that 2 cards are in place. However if I place a card in slot 2 the camera says OK there is a slot and there is a card there, if I use slot 1 on its own all is well and it works. But at least I am not now getting the "no card in the camera" message. I shall persevere with this and if there are any developments will re-post. Just as an extra I am at present using SanDisks in this camera 1x Ultra 80mb/s 32gb and 1xExtreme 45mb/s 32gb in case that is any interest to someone. Sorry about the long disjointed post I think I have explained it as best as I can. Regards John.

Didn't surprise me to learn they were Sandisk. Most of the cards i've ever bought have been Sandisk as I was under the impression that they were the best reliability wise. Over the past 18 months or so though, out of the 4 or 5 Sandisk cards i have bought two have been faulty. I've since switched my allegiance to Kingston and haven't had any problems since.

I have had issues with a couple of Sandisk SD cards where the locking slider has fallen out.

When I have managed to replace the slider, it is too loose, so that when set to unlocked outside the camera, it moves off position or even into the locked position by the time it is inserted into the camera.

You may have either added the firmware update to the wrong folder on the card or not expanded it from the download, so either double click on the download and add the expanded file to the root directory of the card, ( i.e not the DCIM folder ) I believe there is a TXT file that also expands, this does not need to be moved to the card.

Then by turning the camera on whilst holding down the menu button, the camera should find the update.

HI all. Have tried again and according to Pentax the file is self extracting so should not need to be expanded. Have followed Chrism8's advice but can find only DCIM on the card with the bin.file inside it. Have moved the file out of the DCIM folder but still cannot get the next part to appear on the screen. I know I am getting older but have followed the instructions to the letter and still cannot get the update to work. I expect forum members will get fed up with this shortly so will have another try then call it a day. Regards for patience. John

Don't know if this may be the issue, the last Firmware update for the K3ii was Aug 2016. The K3 had an update ( V1.4 ) on the 12th July 2018 and this update wont be visible for upload on a K3ii ( just tried it ) LOL.

John - might you be trying to upload a firmware update that's not suited to your camera.

The latest update for the K3ii is here if you don't have version 1.10
