Wow! What a great set. I love #2 - the bird is looking straight at you!
Which were taken with which lens?
Any hints as to where you were? I'll be in Chalfont St G for a couple of days in April, and whilst I wouldn't be able to get such great shots (no skill, and no gimbal head) I'd love just to see them.

Hi Gwyn, thanks!
The top 2 are K-7 & 60-250, the bottom 2 are K-5 @ 600mm, large crops too. Have found that I really need to get the shutter speed at 1/2000 or higher to get sharp shots at that distance, definately better than last time!
Top 2 were handheld so you should be able to get some shots quite easily. This shot should give you an example of how many subjects I had to choose from, and there were more to my right as well!
These were in Stokenchurch where there were a lot of efforts to increase the Red Kite population. Think they did a good job and you can see how easily 3hours just melted away!

Let's hope I get some clear skies and a chance to get out to Stokenchurch. Shouldn't be too much of a problem - my husband spent a year at a school in Horsley's Green and likes to go back there and relive his youth.
Oh and definitely a bit of flirting going on in #4.

A really lovely series Dan.
There is another place you might try on a future occasion, and that's Beacon Hill Nature Reserve. It's a long time since I was there but it's a beautiful spot where in the past I've seen loads of Kites.
They do hang around Stokenchurch a lot too.

I had one of these circling my house for most of the day, unfortunately as soon as you get the camera out they twitch a wingtip and rocket away on a thermal! A very distinctive call too once you get to know it.

My favourite easily is the first of the lot (simply beautiful), but kudos for pulling off the fourth one, at 250mm too!

BTW, the 1st one is at 250mm uncropped, unfortunately not as much kudos for the 4th one as that is a heavy crop from this 600mm shot. Still very pleased with it though!

Actually, Beacon Hill is part of Aston Rowant National Nature Reserve. The nearest post code I could get is for Hill Farm, Stokenchurch, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire HP14 3YJ. Set your Sat Nav to that, drive past, and look for this sign (Aston Rowant National Nature Reserve):

All these shots are great. Shooting a moving target clearly is always tricky (for me at least), so nice job on these. And that tweaked version of the first shot is much better.
