Red Kites - Again!

Didn't think these were worth a seperate thread as the light was poor this time, which lowered shutter speeds to less than ideal even at (for most shots) 3200 ISO.
Having got plenty of in flight shots, I'm concentrating on different, natural, behaviour such as mating, feeding, perching etc. and this week, found a few following a tractor, feeding for worms.
Most of the action happened in a natural dip in the field whilst I was shooting downwards, so not an ideal viewpoint, but worth the effort to watch some different behaviour. Most of these are heavy crops, so unfortunately most are not as sharp as I would have liked.

Interesting stuff! I had no idea they would eat stuff like worms. Kind of ruins their top-predator hard-man image!

Red Kites are not really Predatory Tim, at least not in the same league as Owls and Hawks etc, theyre more scavengers and usually feed on carrion, though they have been known to take birds in flight and small mammals from the ground.

Well, these photos suddenly got less interesting. They were impressive when I thought the kite might at any moment swoop down and bite your leg off!

Thanks all.
If you think the background doesn't look great, try focussing with it!
They were all shot wide open, so no scope for more depth of field here unless I can find a flatter field being ploughed!
The search for better locations will continue.......

Thought I would actually get off my backside and get up before dawn this morning to try for some more action shots and found out that Red Kites like a lie in as much as I do!
After walking through woods for 2 miles, changing location 3 times and driving 40 + miles the first kite I saw was soaring over the shop when I got back! Typical! Will try for better shots over the weekend though!

Lovely shots. The first and second are my pick. The sky looks a different colour in the 600mm shots?
