My instant reaction is to suggest you go wide not long! You can't add to a shot once taken but you can crop out.
I'd suggest the Sigma 10-20 or Pentax 12-24 (which I suspect is a slightly more usable range). The Sigma is a good lens and don't let anyone tell you it isn't sharp but you have to learn how to use it and I was caught out again yesterday!
Looking at your web site I'd have thought a wide angle would give you more scope to use your imagination.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate your philosophy but there are many photos not on my website of longer reach

SMC Pentax 18-250mm seems to fit the bill.

Tel I need some degree of wide-angle but not that much reach or is it too early in the morning?!

Hi,
Like Mannesty, I would recommend the Pentax 18-250. I have one that I use as a 'walkabout' lens and whilst you will typically get better IQ with more discrete lenses, it does a pretty good job across the range. I suppose it depends what you are going to use it for.
Cheers,
Annette

Something like the SMC Pentax 18-250mm would be usefull, I use a Sigma 18-200 as a walkabout. Tamron also have a lens in this area.
The range on this type of lens means less swapping and more chance of getting the shot you want.
Prices vary from around £290 for the sigma upwards.

Possibility but a touch too long!
Telezooms are well known to deliver their worst IQ at their long end and at wider apertures. If you restrict your purchase to only the range you use, the lens will probably conform to the norm, IE: at the long end, you might be disapponted by the results. You might even have difficulty sourcing a lens with your specifications.Possibility but a touch too long!
Buying a telezoom with longer reach than you need helps to minimize this issue. My recommendation would still be the SMCP-DA 18-250mm as a good walkabout lens or, have two lenses covering the range you require.

Well thank you Annette and gentlemen! The SMCP-DA 18-250 would seem to have it. Better do some online shopping after I have cut the grass (2 acres )
Anybody want a very little used Sigma DG 28-300?

Is the DA 18-250 still in production, I thought they discontinue it.
Take a look at the Sigma 18-250 HSM that's the only option I believe.
Tamron has discontinue their 18-250 as well because of the 18-270

I think they have Stefan, but some outlets might still have a new one.
www.mifsuds.co.uk still have it listed. Don't know if they have stock.
This one is £399 incl. shipping from Hong Kong.
