The DA18-250 was optical the same as the tamron lens and it also didn't had quick-shift.

So maybe the lens was made in the same factory as tamron and since tamron stopped production because of the newer 18-270.
Maybe we will see a 18-270 also for pentax or even with a pentax batch.

Also the 18-250 is one of the last lenses made in Japan all the others are made in Vietnam if I'm correct. Maybe that have something to do with it aswell. Who knows???

To be honest the DA18-250 is a fine lens, I had one and sold it to finance the DA*50-135. I didn't use it to often and didn't need to range.
The lens isn't so fast with focusing so maybe the Sigma 18-250 with HSM would focus faster and would have something like quick-shift but I don't know if the optics are as good.

Congratz with your ordered lens, Andrew.
Let us know how it preforms.

Max,
From the reviews that I've seen from the Tamron 18-270 it prefoms just as good. It seems that optically it's the same design but it can strecth out a bit further so to say. It would be a great lens if Pentax would bring it out with SDM so that it has faster focus and quick-shift, that was something I really missed on the DA18-250. Maybe in the spirit of the upcoming kit lenses also with WR, that would be sweet.
