I have replaced my kit 18-55 kit from ky K200D with sigma 17-70/2.8-4.5. Couldn't be more happy with it. Very sharp, relatively cheap and above all a good walkaround zoom lens.

Luka, thank you. I will have a look at its specification.

If I can join in for a moment and divulge my thoughts on this....(maybe scoop a bit of Andrew's inheritance in the process :wink

My personal feelings on the DA 55-300 is that in terms of optical quality it is superb...but that is it's only advantage. Since having the Tamron 70-300; the DA 55-300 has'nt had a look in.

The Tamron focuses much faster and I find that it's macro mode (whilst not being true macro) is really useful too.

But the Tamron is also known as the "Purple Fringing Monster" - it's only drawback, but this can be dealt with in PP. All in all I have had waaay more keepers with the Tamron than with the 55-300.

Onto the 17-70 subject...I personally would go for the Sigma over the Pentax. Yes the Pentax has SDM focusing; but the Sigma is pretty quick by all accounts (if a tad noisy of course by being driven with the screw drive). The Sigma has a very close focusing ability which I think is very useful indeed and is a bigger plus in my opinion than having SDM only.. And of course the Sigma is much cheaper.

Anyway; there are my thoughts on the matter....I'd better get back to work now!

I think I might go for the Sigma 18-125mm F3.8-5.6 DC HSM. Closest to my requirements
Andrew.

Yep; not going to argue with the point - I'm getting the DA*50-135 in just under two months time; and considering the imminent price hike...it's going to be a hard pill to swallow; but I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree. The Tamron is excellent and at £100 at SRS (and even less on eBay) leaves you cash in your pocket for something else. Even with a Kenko (Tamron) 1.4x the results are pretty impressive.

I've found the Pentax DA 50-200 to have far better IQ than the Tamron. If you don't want the longer range, I'd definately recommend the Pentax. It can be had for not much cash at the moment as well. If you're not in a hurry, I'd suggest waiting for the new AW K-7 version to get reviewed / released....
