Question about PixelShift

Use PDCU !

Silkypix 6 and 7 can handle them subject to.....

For RAW images shot with "Pixel Shift Resolution", several features such as a demosaicing sharpness are unavailable.

Is it possible for you to try a conversion in latest version of PDCU (just released) and see if it allows MC on the image?

I didn't particularly want to install PDCU again as it performed so badly on my PC last time. It was frustratingly slow. Once bitten, twice shy. (Must have been written in 8 bit basic!) What's more my SSD is practically full and I think Windows needs much of the spare capacity left (only 7Gb remaining) so I'd need to uninstall something else first! I've already ditched Adobe reader, that gained more than I expected! And I tried those Nik plug-ins and they've gone already too. Anything installed has to be something essential now.

No worries John, I'll find an image on the web and post results.

I downloaded a K3II DNG from Imaging-resource and processed it in PDCU 5.5.1.

PDCU allowed me to use MC on this K3II image, suggesting that MC is a Software/Firmware feature.

In reality that blurring/ghost image may not have been an issue, but it does highlight that the feature may well have limited real world application. I see it as a static landscape or static product photography tool at this stage. Akin to the issues you have with movement between bracketed shots for HDR use.

I agree with that too.

Much better than the simulated AA filter use of the sensor shift tech, which I suspect will remain off 99.9% of the time.

However, an even better use would be to stabilise video, you know, like Sony and Olympus do now, and Pentax did 6 years ago...

I don't agree with that though! If you want dedicated video one buy a video camera! If video can be incorporated without impinging on the still camera aspects then fine, at least video is incorporated to some extent for those that have the occasional need. If one's main need is for video then it might be the wrong camera for them (though not necessarily even as it is.)
I never expected my Pentax ME to produce super 8 movies, and vice versa. If you want steady video, buy a tripod, or perhaps dedicated video lenses could be produced with inbuilt stabilisation, I do believe that technology exists?

Not for the Pentax mount, as it's assumed Pentax handle that in body.

Why does Pentax need stabilisation in stills mode? Why not take every shot from a tripod and then you'd never need in camera stabilisation.

Did having the ability to stabilise the sensor during video mode impact on the k-7 and k-5 series stills ability? -Is the k-5 series known as a poor stills camera range that needed sensor stabilisation removed to fix its poor stills performance in future models?

I'm having real trouble locating a 'real' video camera that allows for interchangeable lenses and has sensor stabilisation built in. I've tried the handicams that people are directing me to, but they have small sensors, fixed lenses and no physical sensor stabilisation. Turns out these handicams aren't a direct comparison with a Pentax DSLR at all, and when I compare professional video cameras that are a direct comparison, that are several magnitudes more in cost.

Maybe Pentax will one day re enable the working sensor shift they had operational in the K-7 and K-5 models, and we can celebrate like it's 2009 again.

I just tried pixel shift for the first time to see if I could tell the difference. These were taken on a tripod, so no motion correction. I took 2 shots - one with pixel shift, one without.

So, yes there is a discernible difference, although you have to peer very closely to see it.
