Indeed. I think that advertising and "brand sponsorship" is at least as - if not more - important these days.

Got myself a copy of the August issue (the one with "THE FINAL EDITION / 1950-2020" just under the title) this morning for my collection of final issues -though they are mainly magazines I seem to have killed by buying them regularly. Not a bad read, though a bit too much Landscape related stuff in it - not my scene.

They also have a "Top 10 Best Cameras we've ever reviewed" article. Doesn't mention Pentax. Have they never reviewed any Pentax kit?

Also got myself the latest issue of Rail - one of the better railway mags - but that probably doesn't interest you.

Some people call me 'strange'.
I prefer 'unconventional'.
But I'm willing to compromise and accept 'eccentric'.

Which pretty much brings us round in a circle to where I started. The 2 sentences "Doesn't mention Pentax" and "Have they never reviewed any Pentax kit"? applies to most (if not all) of the current line up of photography mags. As for too much landscape, my preference is exactly that. Like I said earlier in a post, "each to their own".

Seems to be a lively discussion on here regarding photography magazines and their lack of reference to Pentax. I notice that 10 years ago the PU Club magazine was pulled from the clutches of the printers. It looks like it was published every 3 months free of charge to PU members but not certain. I have had a look through some of these from 10 years back and am quite impressed. A magazine that talks about our kit and newly released/to be released gear. For me I would be happy to pay for this magazine if it were started up again, how about anybody else? Anybody know why it was stopped?

That's the point (I think). Was there a charge for the magazine or was it subsidised by Pentax and sent out free?

There was (still is) a subscription available for Pentax User, "Plus Membership" gets you additional benefits, one of them used to be the magazine.

I was a member of the PU club for a long time, there used to be a leaflet in the box of new cameras. This was before the web, the magazine was the main reason to be in the club. IIRC it was £10 a year for the quarterly magazine. This would likely have been '91 after I bought my Z-1.

Somewhere I have some original leaflets from an MEF I bought on ebay - basically the receipt from Curry's, PU leaflet, some bumf about Sam Haskins and perhaps more.

Hi all. I only started this by saying PP had finished. I didn't expect it to go to 3 pages.

Seems you struck a nerve, fella. Bring back PU magazine, that's what I say.

I haven't bought it for years, I used to subscribe to it but found after a while it was getting repetitive in its content. The last time I bought it the mag was about half the thickness that it used to be.

Most are, especially technique-wise. You have your annual article on getting sharp images, usually followed in the next edition by creative blur. DOF one week, shutter speeds the next... By the time I've skipped the product reviews and the technique articles, there can be little left!

Quite underwhelming last edition to be honest. Mind you Photo Monthly fizzled out and got absorbed by Digital Camera.

About PU, I remember the magazines very well. I don't think Nikon do an in-house magazine, and they (nor Canon) have a dedicated website like PU.com - Grays of Westminster (the posh Nikon dealer in Pimlico) have their own dedicated magazine called Nikon Owner which is superb (4/5 issues per year but membership is £60).

As for Pentax reviews generally in PP and DC - when it comes to lens reviews. I get dismayed when the 'Best for Pentax' is an Irix or a discontinued Sigma because they haven't included a Pentax lens.

I cancelled my subscription to PP in June, too much focus on Canon and Nikon. Now I hear it is ceasing publication, just hope it wasn't my subscription that was keeping it profitable!

I subscribe to BJP and haven't bought AP, PP or anything else for years (they all seem the same). Very surprised that the final PP was so lack lustre, they obviously couldn't be bothered to put any effort into it. Way back there were three or four photo mags, now there are dozens of CaNikon 'how to' ones for those who can't be bothered to read the manual. Forums like this have all but destroyed photo mags, given the current offerings, I'm not really surprised.
