Most software editors keep all the exif data intact, but it is possible to remove it if one wishes. I doubt anyone would have deliberately removed the data. Is there a simple explanation for the EXIF omissions?
If the photo in question has been posted to another website first, then downloaded and saved, before being uploaded to the PU gallery it is possible the first website stripped the exif. Facebook is one such website that strips all the exif out of a posted image.
I notice a number of my much older photos have no exif. I just uploaded a recent one and the exif is intact. Perhaps at some point in the past this website was responsible for stripping the info inadvertently.

Many of my images have no (useful) Exif data because they were shot on film...

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

The ability to report the EXIF data on this site was revamped a while ago, especially the correct reporting of lenses used. When posting the lens used will be picked up, but if not then it can be added by the user. It's usually enough to enter something like, say, 18-135mm and then a list of possibilities will be given to choose from.
Best regards, John

Yes John, I have seen this myself and have manually added the lens. But even very recent pictures have no Exif data so I was wondering why on some but not on others. Intriguing. I would suggest you find a few recent images without exif and ask the members who posted how they did so, and if their original image contains data.

Some editing programs don't keep the EXIF data and some processes don't. An example is Photomatix.

I look through the Pentaxuser gallery quite often and try to learn from them where I can. Unfortunately many of the pictures are uploaded minus great chunks of the EXIF data. Would I be correct in thinking that this is a deliberate action on behalf of the photographer and if so why?
I am curious because to see the camera/lens/aperture/shutter speed etc gives me some clues as to settings to try when I am looking to take similar shots myself, wanting similar results. It is true that there is nothing better than experimenting yourself with settings but EXIF data from posted pictures can be a good starting point.
Is there a simple explanation for the EXIF omissions?
