14,000 feet up on the Chilean Altiplano. Dawn at the El Tatio geyser field. -14°C. While wandering around in the steam and ice a very attractive young lady coming towards me throws her arms wide and utters a delighted squeal. Hurriedly trying to work out if I knew her (the wife was one pace behind me) and wondering what she was going to do or say next it was a mixture of let-down and relief when she uttered the single word "Pentax!", indicated her own K10 and passed me by.

Went to a friend's wedding the other day in Cardiff and was pleasantly surprised to see the 'official' photographer using a Pentax. Couldn't see which model until I made a beeline for him outside the church. I was extremely interested to see which lens he used as he didn't change the lens throughout the ceremony and I could see it wasn't a zoom lens. He was using a K5 with the Sigma 50mm f1.4 prime, and that was all he used. I made the point that it was nice to see a professional using a Pentax for a change. I had the impression that he had no inkling to want to use any other camera. Had a brief chat with him and eventually walked away with a spring in my step; can't wait to see the results! If a K5 is good enough for him, it's certainly good enough for me!

Maybe all of us on the forum could visit the same beauty spot on the same day - we'd then spot lot's of other Pentax users and imagine the look on Canon / Nikon owner's faces when they see they are out numbered!

Back in the 70s & 80s it was like that.

....and unfortunately I remember it too!

I'm quite sure Gareth hasn't got a Sigma 50mm f1.4 prime....
he did have a 50mm FA 1.4? In fact I've never heard of anyone
owning a Sigma 50mm f1.4

I could understand someone using just a 35mm lens on a wedding but
you couldn't do group shots with a 50mm unless your in the middle
of an open field and can move right back and what if it rains?

I've just bought an Optio LS465 for my better half and our son to share

There's one more Pentax in circulation
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

If I remember right the Sigma 50mm f1.4 is an internal focusing lens, so he could just stick a rain cover on.

Just caught part of “The Flying Archaeologist” on BBC 4 and I’m sure Ben Robinson was carrying a Pentax.

Pentax is alive and kicking, well it was when I was traveling in the Masif Central area of France. I spotted 4 pentax cameras, two of them were K5's one was a K7 and the other looked like a KR. However, I think I am the only tog to shoot Pentax at Equine Events with a press pass? Peronally I think the other togs think its an optical illusion as they ask "Pentax" they then sometimes ask to see the images and are shocked at the quality. I certainly no longer need to defend the brand in anyway and some togs have even started asking questions and shown an interest in the K5lls
