Final score from the otter pool at WWT Barnes a couple of hours ago:

DSLRs 5 (Pentax 3, Nikon 1, Canon 1)
Compacts 1 (Sony)

Highlights unlikely to be available on Match of the Day this evening...

Look at the amount of money Sony haved ploughed into producing DSLR's and marketing them, and where are they? probably no better off than Pentax.
Let's hope Ricoh start investing in marketing and advertising Pentax, who, for me have always produced excellent cameras, equally as good as N and C

When the air show comes to Sunderland in July there are thousands attending the two day event. Over the past 4 years or so I think I may have seen 4 Pentax users in total.

I may sound bitter and twisted and full of sour grapes but I firmly put the prolific sightings of Canon and Nikon down to the fanboys editorial of photography magazines. Pentax may advertise within the magazine, but they have little sway as to what goes on the cover. Looking at photography magazines on the newsagents shelves there is always large images of Canon and Nikon cameras. Those two names then enter the subconscious mind of the public. When the time comes that they decide to buy a SLR, it has to be Canon or Nikon. They have never heard of Pentax.

Told you I was bitter....

When prospective buyers read reviews like this one, is it any wonder they don't buy Pentax?

Look carefully, there is a Pentax in there somewhere.

Anybody who is buying a piece of imaging 'bling' is constantly steered towards Canon and Nikon by the magazines.

If anyone doesn't see anything Pentax on the web, perhaps it's because they use Adblocker or similar.

My computer is always full of Pentax ads and suggestions. Google Ads do actually target the things we are interested in much of the time.

The purpose of an ad is to bring things to our attention that we might find useful. Seems fair enough to me.

I think the idea is to reach new users, not people who are already super loyal Pentax adherants like your self. I'm not surprised you get Pentax related Ads. I bet you get at least a shipping container load of it delivered to your door every day ( except Sundays and bank holidays )

Indeed. Some might call it "favours". Others might describe it as 'industry corruption'

I've been pleasantly surprised by the number of Pentax cameras I've seen today at the Llangollen Railway Spring Gala. I've probably seen 4 or 5 users today excluing myself. That's pretty good considering I was only there for around half a day.

I've seen quite a lot of Pentaxes in he last couple of years whenever there's a steam train around - at Newcastle, York and Carlisle in particular.
Of course if you go the Goths Festival at Whitby you will see quite a lot - hanging round the necks of people like Hardgravity, Father Ted, Barrie Forbes, Fatspider Frizthedog, K10D etc as well as some Pentax users who aren't members of this forum.
David.

I have been collaborating with a Scottish surgeon in writing an article related to medical history. He recently contributed a photograph, that I was pleased to notice was taken with his Pentax *ist DS. We are in good company

Could this be another field of imaging technology in which Pentax start at the bottom and work their way up?
