There's a K-3 coming soon and it will be FF.

Interesting the RRP is $900 http://www.pentaxwebstore.com/product/27772

Is there a higher spec model on the way? Or are they trying to undercut the competition?

On Facebook someone asked what the difference is between the K-5 and K-30, Pentax replied:

Quote:
The K-5 has a magnesium alloy body, the K-30 is polycarbonate (both with aluminum alloy chassis); the video features of the K-30 are more advanced due to the PRIME M engine; RAW files are 14 bit on the K-5, 12 bit on the K-30; the K-5 has HDMI socket and a microphone jack, while the K-30 does not.
So it is pitched below the K-5. Is it the K-r replacement or is it a mid level between the two and we will have replacements K-r and K-5?

Very comfortable looking design and layout.
I'm often hitting the LV button by mistake in the K7, good to see it relocated.

Looks a great follow-up to the K-r. Hope it does well.

Not at all, like your good outspoken self, I have an opinion.
No, didn't miss the wink, or the rolleyes.

Not complaining about you having an opinion. The more outspoken the better IMO

It strikes me as a replacement for the K200d... so I reckon it will be intermediate between a new entry level model (or perhaps the K-01) and the top of the range APSC model (the K5 replacement).

The hands-on is already up at dpreview.

Interesting side by side with the K5. I know which camera's looks I prefer

None too shabby. I prefer more refined/functional styling, but I can see the Transformers look appealing to buyers.

Looks really small. I am guessing the strategy is to try and compete with the DSLR-style MILCs, and throw in a really good 100% prism viewfinder to give it one over on them.
The white version looks very Starwars Trooper

I wish Pentax would replace that mediocre kit lens though. it's just so boring, both in IQ and charisma

It always struck me as a replacement for the K200d... so I reckon it will be intermediate between the upcoming new entry level model and the top of the range APSC model (the K5 replacement).
or Pentax could be going for:

K-r (replacement)- Beginners APSC
K30 - Intermediate APSC
K5 (replacement) Advanced APSC
K3 (or other more random name) - AdvancedFullFrameAtMassivePriceTag

A 4 camera line certainly would put them well and truly back in the competition...

Well the WR version does offer something pretty cool for the price. I have kept mine for the weather sealing (refuse to pay up for a 16-50). Kit lenses are meant to be boring, though aren't they? Acceptablefor most purposes but not so good that you aren't tempted to buy another lens (and succumb to LBA....) My issue with the kit lens isn't that it's boring, it's just a bit poor compared to the competition, especially at the edges. CA abounds.

they are bundling this with the 18-135 wr in america and hopefully canada too.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Plenty of lenses here no need for yet another one but if it comes bundled with the 18-135 at least I have a fairly valuable lens to sale and recoup a bit of the expense.

Very nicely done

But it's boringly poor.

A valid point, but personally I think the 18-55 range is perfect for a kit lens, but it should be decent quality at least, and as you rightly say ...

.. so if the competition can do it so why not Pentax?

The kit lens should help a Pentax buyer be excited with their brand purchase and look forward to expanding their kit.

Buying a K-5 with the Kit lens is like buying a Ferrari with a Trabant engine.
