I can add the k-5 image quality to my kit without breaking the bank...

Don, a K5 costs 589 pounds here in Australia, that's not breaking the bank. It still costs Pentax the same to make it now as it did when they launched it. The difference was profit.

Is it due to the video spec's that you want it.

Best regards

Nice, they have a great way of settling camera disputes as well! Actually, the K-01 should be making Don a happy video man and it also keeps that all-important backwards compatibility in a big way. The other marques are obviously worried already as the cashback offers have started arriving in my Inbox.....
Best regards, John

it is still less than the k-5, but yes it's the video I'm interested in.. one wanting a true d-slr would be hard pressed to find a better value than a used k-5 if on a budget..but then there are those niggling doubts about some of the QC issues that plagued the earlier releases... I think this cam is smaller than it looks and a side by side comparison to the kr and k5 is in order...

it will fit nicely into a lens compartment in my camera bag and be a fine addition to my collection..

as for the 4/3's changeable lens compact segment... I think it will hold it's own.. won't be a class leader in any area except image quality.. for some, that is enough...
I think those wanting an evf and articulated screen, are find themselves pleasantly surprised with a rebadged ricoh gr series k-mount modual...
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I'm a little bit concerned about some of the button placement issues... I'm sure Pentax's own engineers could have made a better job than a 'diva designer' tbh.... The K-02 should be an excellent camera though!!!

Is it just me? That thinks it's odd that on the day that a company launches a new product. Both the global and UK websites of said company have no information or photos of the new product? (as far as I can see anyway)..... I think I like it bit of step up from me K100 ... jeff..

I was thinking the same, there are third party videos reseller tech spec lists but go to Pentax and you might think it is all a big spoof

I think they are updating the sites - they are taking an eternity to load here.
It is a shame Pentax still haven't gone with a swivel screen.

Update - Pentax nl do have it up and so do .co.uk now.

Have just seen the K-01, not the most attractive or cameras, cosmetically it doesn't work for me at all. Pity.

Why would you not stick with your Kr anyway?

This is for point n shoot / camphone upgraders who want great IQ, HDR and video... and don't even know what OVF means...

No good for wildlife and sport, so no good for me
Hopefully there'll be a flagship DSLR/DSLT announced soon!

Indeed. I'm trying to imagine following a fast jet across the sky with the Bigma attached to this thing, trying to keep the thing on the LCD.

My imagination just isn't good enough.
