Crikey all of a sudden everyone's stripping down the alleged Pentax FF of all features

A digital MX would be alright in my book! No newfangled features there, just 35mm of DOF enhancing loveliness. But I think most users would require a screen, AF, and a shutter button....

I agree, provided it was not too expensive.

Anyone know for sure why Canon and Nikon FF cameras are so large? Do they really need to be that big or is it just lazy/bad design?

As Kevin has stated, the D600 isn't significantly larger than a K5. It must be around K20 size, if not smaller.

Some people like a hefty brick of a camera, built in grip etc.

Subjective of course but it looks significantly bigger to me

Yeah it looks quite a bit bigger to me too, I was taking Kevin's word for it as someone who had handled both cameras.

True about Canikon crop sensor cameras... try comparing the 7D for instance -http://camerasize.com/compare/#154,378

Appreciate you taking my word .. but for the non-believers the dimensions speak for themselves (1mm x 1.5mm x 1mm larger than the K5II and 90g heavier). Photos can lie

Notice the difference when comparing the D600 next to the D800 - which doesn't feel that much larger though the pics seem to show a different story. http://camerasize.com/compare/#290,378

In the hand I actually prefer the D800 though the D600/K5ii etc. are easier to stow and carry. Since a lot of Pentax users like to add a grip that makes the package even larger/heavier (with batteries) than the D800, I doubt that a K6 FF, being slightly larger than the K5, would bother many people at all.

Sorry I meant cms not mms. Too late to edit the post now ! So as I said put your fingers together and see what 1cm is in actuality, it's really nothing. It's 90g on Snapsort but whether 90g or 110g ... again it's piddling and not even worth debating.

For all intensive purposes there is nothing dimension & weight-wise between an APS-C K5ii and a full frame D600. So IMHO Pentax could easily make a FF camera a fraction smaller than the D600 ... or in other words identical to a K5ii.

Well there is a significant difference in size between the K-5 and D600 and in spite you saying "Photos can lie" ( which of course can sometimes be true ) the comparison photos here

http://camerasize.com/compare/#187,378

are not lying. The ratio of the images is the same as the ratio of the dimensions quoted.

But there's really no need to make disprovable claims about the sizes of cameras ...

... as I'm sure most of us know that Pentax could be capable of making a FF DSLR that's much smaller than the D600 and probably hardly much bigger than the K-5. I sure hope they don't make it a brick

So what do you mean by that ?

I have given the dimensions twice in this thread (the first time in cms the second time mistakenly in mms) and you, who does not own a D600, are trying to tell me (who has owned both, even at the same time) that because 'you have seen it on the internet' you must be right ?

There is only one answer to that, until you have been and held them side you side you are not qualified to lecture me on the reality.

I don't think size matters, Its what you do with it that countsWell that's what I seem to keep saying

Anyway it's surely horses for courses, Take me, I have quite big hands and the K5 looks tiny in them but I do like the compactness of it and how it doesn't take up to much room in my Billingham Hadley bag, but I use a friends 60d which feels just right in the hand but to large to go in my bag, like I said everyone is different and your camera will always be better then their camera,if you know what I mean
