Pentax, or ??

I have to say I agree with Mike-P that "first and foremost this IS a Pentax site" and "I do agree that non Pentax photos shouldn't be posted on the forum"

We all knew the rules when we joined up, and I'm sure we joined up because we enjoy using Pentax. I see no harm in some discussion and comparison with other brands, and many of us do have alternative cameras. But let's stick to Pentax images on here.

Please let's not let this get out of hand - just let it go!

Discussion of other brands OK, but not photos with other brands, and that includes other brands with a Pentax lens.

There are plenty of other forums and places for posting photos with other brands.

As for this thread, I think things could have been handled better, and I sincerely hope we aren't in for yet another riot. It will kill the forum.

By that same logic, pictures taken with a Pentax camera having a non Pentax lens shouldn't be allowed.

But they are tolerated.

That says a lot about the politics of this forum.

Not at all Yves. A Pentax camera is the whole point of it. It is the uniqueness of what a Pentax camera produces as opposed to a Nikon or a Canon or a Sony with the same third party lens on it.

If you are going to allow photos just because they use a Pentax lens then don't call it Pentax User any more - call it Yet Another Photography Forum, and watch the Pentax users be squeezed out by the rest.

I own a Sony A7 and I also own an adaptor which allows me to use Pentax lenses on it, and it's superb as I have the best of both worlds, But can I show the photos on here? No as I have already been told.

So what I am doing is using Pentax lenses on a third party body, Now if a can't show these photos as I am using a Sony camera I.e. A third party body, how on earth can you have it the other way round?

There must be a time when common sense kicks in...

So why do we have ads for non Pentax gear?
Oh yes it probably brings in revenue!

There are so many forums out there for photography. If you don't like the rules here there is nothing stopping you going elsewhere. Pentax users get swallowed up and generally either ignored or worse mocked on other forums.

Pentax cameras can't take Sony or Canon or Nikon lenses, so it is hardly a fair comparison imho. The fact that so many users of other brands happily use Pentax lenses with adapters says a lot about the quality, and price, or Pentax lenses.

Now let's let this thread rest please.

So I am back to my point, is this a Pentax Camera forum or a Pentax forum? As I said I use Pentax lenses on a Sony body.

That's going to be me soon for more dedicated video work. A sony mirrorless with a pentax to sony adaptor for my lenses. Would happily stay with Pentax for this purpose if they offered anything in this arena.

Presumably anything with this combo won't be allowed.

As I've said before, anyone with a Pentax is a PentaxUser, which is the name of this site. It's not called PentaxOnlyUser.

I sometime put old Nikon lenses on my Pentaxes. They work a treat in manual mode.

There are other Pentax Forums that are flourishing.

With that sort of blinkered attitude I hope that you and the Mods will be very happy because the way it's going you'll be the only ones left in a few weeks

I will continue reading and maybe posting here as there are many knowledgeable and helpful people, mods included.
The efforts of the moderators are generally appreciated, but the strictness of the pentax only rule seems weird and is not the normal practice in other owners clubs and forums that I contribute to. I feel that what is essentially pettiness will eventually lead to the demise of this useful resource.

Come on, lets be realistic and honest about this ... nothing is 'flourishing' anywhere. The level of involvement and commenting has dropped, but it is not made up by a corresponding rise in activity elsewhere. Since the events earlier this year it has been more of a struggle on any of the forum options.

Its good to have an alternative, and many of us have been compelled to spread ourselves around more because otherwise you miss out - but its not easy trying to keep tuned in to different forums. Full marks to those who established and have offered the alternatives, which can suit those who need to post non-Pentax pictures. But its not realistic to believe you can just leave here and it will all be rosy, you'll find everything needed elsewhere ....

I remain involved here because I still enjoy it, and I value the people here - PU is a good place to be for Pentax photographers and for showing our Pentax pictures.
