Some great images there Fletcher...the equine ones are very good but the first is my favourite...very atmospheric and love the coloured background.
Congratulations on making some money from photography, not easy to do these days.
I've just had a brief look at your website...looks very nice..and educational...i'll return later for a longer browse.

No 3 for me, cracking! I prefer the right framing here, really suits the subject. Good vibrant images overall.

Excellent shots especially number 5 for me.
Only you know what equipment you need - maybe others would agree with you if they were there with you when you are working and not just theorising!

Sorry, just re-read Fletcher's opening post ! Its easier for us 'hobbyists' with limited budgets - most of us are effectively 'stuck' with the system we've chosen - it becomes a commitment, and then something to defend.
For those earning money, its clearly a more difficult choice ... I was puzzled by Gary Cabstar's recent comment (can't find the thread now to reply directly) about Pentax autofocus in low light venues ... he was singing its praises, but he'd made the move to Nikon, presumably to get better autofocus / low light performance specifically for his venue shooting needs ??

I've just come from Nikon and Fuji and re-re-re-committed to Pentax but then I do not need the low light capability of the larger Sensor from the big "I AM". If Gary moves up from his current D600 (From memory!) to a D8xx (Preferrably a D810), he will very likely find what he seeks in the AF department, Same goes for Fletcher8, (OP) He shoots indoors a lot and equestrian events, which I have also done at times and on a dingy day with trees for a background there is not much light, high ISO is the order of the day and the larger frame is a bit better, simple as. To me it's only a little bit better but that bit may be all the difference to these two members.
I am finding the K3 AF to be very good in low light it can almost see in the dark but I am under no illusions as to it's high ISO capability, it's good, very good for an APSC sensor but it is still an APSC sensor. I'm still figuring out the AF for moving subjects, it's a bit like a Nikon with it's AF hold settings but without the area modes, need some time at the local Airfieled when I get my 300 to work this one out...

Great set to if images.
In response to my comments on another thread and in this thread. I bought the d600 as the price was to good to ignore and I love the images from it but having been spoiled by the k-5 mk11 focussing system I didn't think the d600 focussing system would be as bad as it is in low light I can only compare it t to my old Samsung GX20 it really is that bad. It also seems strange to have a cameras af system hunt again after usng the k-5 mk-11.
As for going to a d800 held one didn't like it and have no need for 40 megabyte images thank you.

Thanks Gary, all interesting stuff and good to hear that endorsement of the upgraded AF on our K5II model.
I appreciate that pros need to invest in particular equipment for a particular need, but for most amateurs I'm sure any kind of system jump is a very major decision financially, and not one that many of us could take lightly. Its not really about being 'stuck', more that the commitment beds in and that leads to perhaps an entrenching of positive feelings about ones chosen brand

You don't have to use it all Gary! Great set to if images.

But point taken, maybe the new D750 would be your kind of vanilla?
I had a D800/E and despite all the reviews to the contrary found that in comparison to my D600/610 they felt like a bar of soap!
Alledgedly the D810 is better but if you have no need of that kind of resolution that point is moot...
None of them are as nice to handle as my K3, I never realised how important that was to me...

Totally agree jules. I just don't like the feel and menu system of the nikon, feels like a brick compared to pentax.

The other factor that led me to switch back was that from ISO 400 noise would creep in - so as good as the D7100 was at ISO 100 - 200 it struggled when the light dropped or when I needed to push the ISO up.
I think my last K5 was a dud (despite being returned twice as the AF was hit and miss and produced soft images - it kept coming back with a clean bill of health) but the K3 is such a marked improvement and in my opinion better all round than the D7100.
The other factor that swayed me back was the community, I have made some good friends through this forum, and have learned loads too.
It is probably impossible as an enthusiast to have the perfect camera, but if I have learnt anything from swapping brands it is the grass is not always greener, and the whole brand switch process makes Andrew a poor boy....

Anyway on a more positive note, below is a very small sample of recent commissioned work using Pentax kit. I hope Pentax provide some new avenues to meet the needs of people who choose to shoot pentax.
