Pentax, or ??

That's not what I told you Marat, and I did give you a reply via PM, after which you're still asking the question.

Pentax users should have no problem posting Pentax pictures, users of other marques need to stay marque-neutral. It's simple when we don't try to over-define it, but then most things are!

Sorry but I don't know who you sent a PM too. But it wasn't me, nothing received.

Ah, that would explain why you've kept asking the question!

I think I've answered it now as above, but if that needs any clarification please let me know.

Yep got it in one, so to sum up, I am a Pentax user when I use say my Pentax 28mm f3.5 on my K-3, but stop becoming a Pentax user when I mount the same Pentax lens on my A7 even though I am still taking the photo with a Pentax.

Ever thought about becoming a Member of Parliament John.

At least we have a straight answer, we can deal with that.

Politics and sport are two areas that have no interest whatsoever for me.

John, Something we agree on, I would be interested in Politics and Sport but their rules are more confusing then here on Pentaxuser.

Sorted now anyway, so thanks.

Even though I participate on other forums this is the set up I like the most

I do think film users should speak up if they use the gallery I don't recall Pentax ever making scanners or processing/printing machines...

Please stop baiting admin/mods - many of us like it as it is...

While this thread started because of non-pentax pictures posted on this site, i think the opinion most people have stated is that we should be open to discussing other brands. I fully agree with that if this Forum is also to provide advice on gear, and not only photographic tachniques. This is because Pentax does not have a full range of cameras (most manufacturers do not) and so I think the brand would strengthened by highlighting where it's best. So if a user has needs that fit very well with Pentax's strengths, he/she would get sound and trustful advice. But I do not think anyone on this Forum would say that Pentax is best at fast action photography (yes, I know it can be done...).

Otherwise the comparison is always about which brand is best, and Pentax as an overall brand would lose (as would many other good brands).

So I believe it would be welcome to allow reasonable discussions on other brands. My experience on other Forums is very positive. I read very positive comments of the K-3 on mirrorless (no names here) forums, as well as on a "FF-brand" forum. And it did not hurt their brand in my view because they were happy with their camera and saw the K-3 best in its own class.

Why can't this forum do the same?

In my view it is not a matter of common sense, but realising that people have multiple cameras and change then very often. Sound advice can help many of us make the right choice .

Thanks Giorgio, this has all been taken on board already, when it was discussed on a previous thread. It's part of the ongoing discussion by management as to the direction of PU. They do listen.

It's worth bearing in mind though that it has to be balanced against the wishes of those who like the current setup and don't want it changed. There are also those who tell us by PM but don't necessarily want to get involved in a public discussion.

I agree with you Gary that the other forums have not really picked up and balanced the total activity - there's much less I feel going on overall. Could be that many have been put off participating at all because of bad feelings, or (as it is for me) its just a practical hastle to try to keep up with multiple threads spread around?

I'm not really so sure about the idea that people would leave the brand BECAUSE they can't make comparisons and see images from other makes here on PU ??? Did you not yourself read reviews and get advice on non-Pentax forums, compare technical specs, and listen to what people working around you with other makes were saying? Did you not make you choices based on weighting up information from many places.?

I'm a member here, and gladly offer information and advice on using the K7 / lenses or other aspects of the Pentax system that I've got experience with. But I'm not able to tell anyone what is best in practise about a technical aspect between the K7 and a 7D - because I've never used a 7D! Do you think this site would be better if everyone used more cameras so they can offer comparisons? Thats not what I think its really about here ....
But thats the main problem with the forum, where do you go to get a fair comparison from users about other marques and compare with Pentax if you cannot discuss other marks within this forum. Pentax users are few and far between so this forum would be perfect to discuss the positives and negatives of brand ownership compared to other marques.

Im in favour of going back to Pentax, yet under current rules cannot discuss the brand I am currently using, what is good about the brand I'm using and why it sucks compared to Pentax. If the forum wants to increase membership and Pentax brand ownership then active discussions comparing other brands should be allowed. By not having these discussions smacks of something to hide or that Pentax is an inferior product, which of course it isn't.

At the moment for example you annoy even post similar images from one brand to compare with Pentax which to me is just stupid, I understand the not posting other brand images but when doing comparisons why not?

Ah well, I will drop in again next weekend....
Gary, I would really like to hear of the experiences that you outline above so if you get a chance to outline these somewhere I will be watching. In the light of the official ff acknowledgement I think your views are very valuable.
