Olympic games

I've just read the update on the Amateur Photographer web site for the Olympics themselves (specifically Wembley for the footie I note, at moment)

Can it really be that interchangeable cameras are now completely banned. What a precedent for all public use from now on!

Pentax Q anyone?

I assume all these rules have been transmitted to the masses of foreign tourists who will be flooding into the country. Or does it only apply to homegrown Brits?

I've yet to see an American or Japanese tourist sporting anything less than a smart DLSR.

The point is if these visitors are told 'no' then they can't enter the venue as ther's no where to leave their gear. That'll go down well

I left my gear at home for Hard Rock Calling the other year only to be told by the girl on the gate it wouldn't have been a problem. Very frustrating.

I can just see the jobsworths trying to explain the situation to an irate American, or a Japanese/Chinese tourist with little or no English.

There will be plenty people stood outside the venues offering to:
"Look after yer DSLR and Lenses for Fiver Guv?"
Half Man... Half Pentax ... Half Cucumber

Pentax K-1 + K-5 and some other stuff

Point and shoot with 10 times zoom will certainly be very popular during the games.

No interchangeable lens cameras at all? I suppose I'll have to leave the Tair at home after all.

On the other hand

Quote:
Speaking earlier, the FA spokesman told AP that he did not know what the procedure is if someone is stopped, repeating that it has never happened before.

‘The stadium has a pretty pragmatic approach and the security staff have vast experience at dealing with this. If it looks like [it has] a huge zoom lens then it probably won't be allowed in.'
So you might be OK with your kit lens? The rule, it seems, is specific to Wembley Stadium and is set by the FA, not LOCOG. All other venues will adopt the less restrictive guidance set by LOCOG.

Quote:
Wembley is the only Olympic venue not to adopt regulations laid down elsewhere by London 2012 organisers, according to Locog which has set a 30cm limit on spectators' camera equipment at other sites.

I suppose that the Photosniper is a very good example of being absolutely within your legal rights to use it on the streets or wherever, but realistically asking for Big Trouble as you get reported by panicked bystanders.

I suppose it would eventually be classed as Disturbing The Peace as repeatedly the police were alerted wherever you went.

Stick to using that one from a bird hide I think!

And in fairness, if you are sitting at a sporting event and you couldn't see the action because someone had this in front of you, you might have good grounds for a complaint!

I think that would pose a problem for the person sitting in front as well...

I took my other camera and a 70-200 + TC-E 17 to Wimbledon a few weeks ago and I had no problems whatsoever.
