The whole thing is a complete and utter joke. On the State propaganda channel right now they are talking about lack of ticket sales. I'm not surprised. The stupid terror war games it's become has put a lot of people off.
The games is supposed to be a fun event that brings people together. the London 2012 games has done exactly the opposite
I've still got to edit the pics. Must get one with that.

Just to point out, the torch event in Dover is a ticketed event you have to pay to get into (despite it being on the sea front)
Presumably if I just stood somewhere in town with my camera they couldn't say anything.
My issue is more with the attitude of these event organisers towards SLR's.
Seems silly.
That's not only silly it's disgusting. Our local torch event, which I went to was held on the local green area, had the huge stage, Olympic cauldron, appearance by stunted Sebastian Coe, and variosu other artistes for entertainment. Tens of thousadns turned up, there were no stupid and officious photography restrictions. I as even snapping the local coppers and security without problems Just to point out, the torch event in Dover is a ticketed event you have to pay to get into (despite it being on the sea front)

I was NOT surprised when my wife pointed out the 2012 Olympics London games medals featured a Greek God on the back .... not Pistis the god of honesty and faith, not Metis, nor Homonoia, nor Kratos, nor Techne, nor even Milfia
Nope, they chose Nike, goddess of victory,
how much did that cost?

Doug - I get the feeling that the choice of Greek Goddess was due to a certain sportswear company playing a large part, financially. Euro 2012 beat them to that other Greek God - Giorgios Samaras!

Please refer to news of the London underground and the bus of not that long ago, I think we should give credit to the authorities for being extra careful where public safety is concerned.

You are right, I don't think anyone would oppose security being taken seriously at the games. Which is precisely why most people are apalled by the G4S debacle! Please refer to news of the London underground and the bus of not that long ago, I think we should give credit to the authorities for being extra careful where public safety is concerned.

And I don't think 'taking security seriously' means curtailing non-official photography, or preventing local shops from displaying sausages arranged into the olympic rings.
As far as surface to air missiles on nearby rooftops goes.... I honestly don't see what that's supposed to acheive other than create an unduly paranoid atmosphere. I mean, if they strike down an incoming missile, it's going to hit a heavily populated area whatever, right? Maybe they're hoping to deflect an incoming strike towards some of the more deprived East London communities, and clear an area for redevelopment while reducing the welfare bill in one fell blow?
