The Sigma is 19cm (without hood) plus K5 would be ok, with the 2x I don't think

Then just reverse the hood or worst case scenario - don't take it at all !

Grisha - your 77 is 423mm and the 70-200mm is 385 - 1,100mm ... on a Q
I was going to leave mine at home, especially if I decide to take the 50-135. Though it is tennis, so I might take the 18-135 for the faster focus.

My point was that you need to think about it and measure the lens fully extended as I am sure that security will be scanning the crowd!

Just get yourself a high-vis jacket or waistcoat and you won't be bothered by anyone.

Hope you get some good shots.

This really annoys me tbh, the torch relay is coming through Dover tomorrow was hoping to get some good shots until I read this on their website:

"Additional prohibited items

Professional camera (SLR) with a lens bigger than 6 inches and/or video cameras or recording equipment. Standard compact cameras will be permitted."

Which seems to be in conflict with this, also on the site.

"Camera for personal use only. No pictures or video taken at the event may be used for commercial purposes."

It is for personal use, I wont be making any money from this, don't suppose that argument will have any weight though if the lens is over 6"

This has happened to me on a few occasions where I've been told to put my camera away, once was at a concert where I was sat with a VIP badge (I was with a band members family) and got told to put my camera away....blows my mind.

There seems to be a real issue with any organised event and SLR's, seems ridiculous considering we have such things as this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vtec-12x-Telephoto-Lens-iPhone/dp/B004V8VUXS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1342529413&sr=8-4

Would that not be allowed in??

I don't see why you cannot take photos on a "professional" camera or video camera of an event taking place in an area that is readily accessible to the general public. The Olympic organisers cannot surely claim "intellectual property rights" to images, irrespective of the equipment used to obtain that image unless that event is strictly "by invitation only". I'd love to see a court trying to prosecute that one!!

This is the 'Official' line on street photography and although the olympic organisers would wish otherwise, it remains so and they rely on most members of the public's lack of knowledge to enforce their wishes.

Presumeably the BBC/ITV/CNN/ETC/ETC will simply ignor those edicts on the basis it is news (and we all know these are non-profit making organisations.

Unfortunately the Olympics has fallen into two parts :-
--The competitors and supporters for which I have every respect and good wishes for

--The organisers who probably fit the following better :-

Just to point out, the torch event in Dover is a ticketed event you have to pay to get into (despite it being on the sea front)

Presumably if I just stood somewhere in town with my camera they couldn't say anything.

My issue is more with the attitude of these event organisers towards SLR's.

Seems silly.

All those news agencies are for profit business, unless you where tongue in cheek

When the flame was in Cleethorpes last month there was no camera restrictions, I think it's a given people want to be photographed holding the flame....
