No more Pentax for me!...

I'm still a little puzzled as to how a small sensor bridge camera helps you, as in this case the crop factor will still be there but even more so.

If you really want a full frame DSLR there are a few on the market, at a price of course.

If Pentax do produce a full frame DSLR then it is bound to be priced at around £2000.
As has been said, full frame sensors show up mediocre lenses. Only the best will do.

I had a Canon 5D Mk1 Full Frame before I bought into the Pentax APSC DSLRs. It gets used occasionally, when I need a full 12mm wide angle. I had to buy the expensive Canon L series lenses to get decent quality photos.

I much prefer my Pentax DSLRs to my Canon outfit.
Friendly Regards

I think the OP's point was that he wants two things: a small interchangeable-lens camera for taking everywhere, and a FF DSLR for maximum image quality on pre-planned photo exhibitions. In his opinion APS-C is an unhappy medium between these two things which as a result meets neither of his needs.

I thought he'd said quality was not the issue, just his annoyance with working out crop factors.

Funny enough the Sony NEX camera's carry an APS-C sensor and are smaller than Panasonic and Olympus micro 4/3th offerings

That is why it never bothered me! Finally it makes sense!.
I'm to dumb to do math..... I stick whatever on the camera to get the shot!
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

If you can do the math though, I'm sure taking into account the 1.5x crop wouldn't be a problem

In olden times people were far less easily confused than nowadays.

Everyone knew what different lenses did in LF, MF and, as it was called Miniature Format - the once deplored and despised 135 that is now being held up as the Holy Grail from some long past golden age.

I cant understand why the OP doesn't just learn to get on with progress, and it is progress, or doesn't buy a 645d.

I do wish people would read and understand what I have written in this thread before commenting. I am beginning to think that some of you are deliberately misunderstanding.

For the last time... IT IS ABOUT THE LENSES!!!!!.. ONLY THE LENSES!!

I have a lot of lenses, some very expensive, some very cheap, but ALL made for 35mm format. All together they are worth very much more than my DSLR.. Or any Dslr made by Pentax. So they constitute the greater part of my photographic equipment. Yes, I know that they can still be used on a crop sensor camera. I DO use them on a crop sensor camera, BUT... My 24mm lens is not a wide angle lens anymore. It is a standard on the istD. The 50mm is not a standard anymore. It is a short telephoto. My longed for Vivitar 35-85 Varifocal is not a wide to moderate lens on a crop sensor. It is a standard to long telephoto, instead.
If I had no camera and no lenses and were starting from scratch, It wouldn't be an issue. I probably wouldn't want a FF. Wouldn't feel the need for it. But I have the lenses. They mean more to me than the camera. The camera has a short life and is pretty much disposable. The lenses will last a lifetime. They do not wear out or die like cameras. I have them already and do not want to sell them. I value them more than I will value any Dslr body. They are primary. The camera body is secondary. I want a camera that will match the intended use of the lenses, rather than the lenses being compromised on a less important part of the kit (the camera body). Nothing to do with image quality. Just MY lenses.

Geddit now?.. LENSES LENSES LENSES.. IT'S ABOUT THE FRICKIN' LENSES. NOTHING ELSE, JUST MY BLOODY LENSES!

Steady on there, no need to get excited about it. We do understand, but not everyone agrees. That's an entirely different matter and people are entitled to disagree. Respectfully disagree, of course.

Mowog – I empathise – it’s funny that in different threads on different topics there have been many many comments by Members, to the effect that Lenses, not bodies, are the important thing: And given the undoubted quality of most Pentax Lenses, this is truer than for most Brands. I for one would not go for FF, just the sheer size of the beasts, but your point about lense value is spot on.

It's OK, John. I'm not excited. Just using capitals for emphesis, not shouting.

My best and most expensive lens is a 28mm Shift, of no use whatsoever on APS-C, I've learned to shrug my shoulders but I have a couple of film bodies should the need ever arise to use it again.

Mowog - I rather liked that "rant". (It's been a cr*p day and that brightened it up.) Do you mind that I deliberately used a Basil Fawlty in total exasperation mode voice to read it by? Works wonders! (By the way, this is no comment on the subject matter of your thread, which I'll leave for others. I do think you should offer your services to others though - a nice rant without getting nasty! :wink

Cheers

Personally I understood your initial post correctly - you want two things photographically speaking, neither of which is made, or is likely to be made, by Pentax.

But, to start a thread with the title "No More Pentax for Me" and not to anticipate a lively debate and to have people disagree with you is somewhat naive. You been on here long enough to realise the one-eyed nature of many contributors, I would have thought.

Good Luck in your photography whatever you may use next. I'm just sad that all that lovely glass will sit unused, although I take your point that it won't deteriorate (subject to being stored in suitable conditions).
