How can this work? The image circle of 35mm and aps-c lenses is way too small to cover 645.

I was in a local Photography shop on the weekend and he told me Pentax are about to reveal a new camera at the end of october, it will be a 12mp replacement for the KM is all he could tell me. Also there is talk that the prices of Pentax lenses are about to come down in price as well.
Pentax K20D, Pentax 16-45, Sigma 50-300, Tamron 70-200 f2.8. Tamron 90 f2.8 macro, The Sigma Bigma.
Nikon D700 ,nikon 14-24mm f2.8, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR.

The article refered to says "The camera is designed to offer an inexpensive studio system that allows the use of a vast range of lenses."
That suggests to me that the lens is mounted further from the film plane in order to increase the image circle - of course that means loss of infinity but if its designed to be an inexpensive studio system then infinity won't matter.
No details of this on Hartblei's web site so I'm just speculating...

It's not an encouraging comment as image quality will fall off dramatically towards the edge of the frame. The lenses may illuminate beyond their design perameters, in fact they must do, but the area chosen normally is the one where quality holds up acceptably.

Being a Hartblei though it can't be long before there's a P6 mount available - that might be worth buying if the price was right

Yes, but what back are you going to put on it? Leaf backs cost a fortune. If you were intending to put a Mamiya, H'blad or Contax back on it then you already have a camera that takes Hartblei lenses. I don't really get what this is for or am I missing something?Being a Hartblei though it can't be long before there's a P6 mount available - that might be worth buying if the price was right

It's only a marketing ploy. They don't want to launch a product world-wide when they have so little idea what the sales will be. If it proves popular, it'll come. Why shouldn't it?

Ah yes, Pentax and their devious marketing ploys!
One can only guess what the future will bring. I was merely referencing what we know from Pentax. Of course, if we see the 645D at all it will be a minor miracle. But I, for one, think it will happen.
