Yes. Why don't you like them? I think they are intelligent and beautiful looking birds.

I usually do not have any issues with wild animals but gulls and crows, I just can't handle. I tend to class them as vermin (admittedly the wrong thing to do).

I don't mind them. Indeed I rather like them, although they can be very persistent critters sometimes if you're sitting by the coast with some food in your hand... They tend to be pretty fearless of people, and quite large, which I reckon can be useful for practicing bird shots on a subject which doesn't disappear in a flash (!). Here's one about to do something altogether unmentionable:




Maybe not the most enticing activity but a slightly different pose to the usual...

I lived in Hastings for a while and the gulls there were real hooligans, ripping open bin bags and generally behaving like chavs. Part of the scene, though and to the extent they are a pest, it's our own laziness in leaving easy pickings that makes them the nuisance they can be. I always love watching them fly, though, some of the most agile of birds.

I was a little disturbed in that the gulls in neighbouring Eastbourne were organising themselves in militaristic fashion. I managed to fire off one frame of them before they noticed me and I was forced to flee. The precision of their gull-stepping infantry and the thrumming of their gull winged air support haunts me still.

As Mat says, the only time I dislike them is when at the seaside, attempting to eat a bag of chips !

Seagulls - otherwise known as "Maritime Shyte Hawks" are vermin and should be treated as such.

Gull, Great Black-backed - Larus marinus
Gull, Lesser Black-backed - Larus fuscus
Gull, Herring - Larus argentatus

are all on what is called a General Licence as as such I try to get as many shots at them as possible.
