Hi

Has anyone heard when these two new god dam pentax lenses will actually be out yet ?? What the hell are pentax playing at ?? We keep getting different times etc..

I was hoping to get one early this year. Even when it comes out we have to wait for the reviews before making the plunge. Might get it by the next millenium

AHHHH

Review? I'm not waiting for a review. It will definitely be better than the 18-55 (and hopefully better than the 16-45, it is already faster), weather seals and SDM.

What else could you want?

Edit: Avaliability would be good. Still seemingly on for the end of July.

I agree in parts Tyr but if its image quality is far superior than the 16-45 Great but if its not that much difference will the price justify us folk buying one. ???

like all things it will depend on your use for it.

From what people say of it I can't see the 16-45 being beaten by much in terms of image quality, the extra asking price is going to be buying you 3 things IMO

F2.8

SDM

Weather seals

Since it's a pro-class lens the image quality will be superb I have no doubt, but from what people say so is that produced by the 16-45.

I would hope that the 16-50 doesn't have the same problem with fringing, and distortion at the wide end. I have found mine to be a bit of a disappointment on the whole though it is possible to get good photos with it so long as you avoid high contrast edges.

Used Pentax for the last 25 years. (Me Super, SFXn, Z1, MZS and istD-still got them all) and won a Samsung GX10 in a comp earlier this year

"Expected end of July" is the latest info from Chris at SRS.

He doesn't say which year though.

From a reliable source in the back alley, these lenses will be available in the Summer, Fall, Winter, or Spring of 2007, 2008, 2009, or 2010.

With any luck, I might be able to buy one before the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010...

As it is, I knew I wasn't going to have the DA* 60-250mm before Oshkosh in July , but HOLY COW Pentax!!! "It's going to be March. Available in March." is what we heard for the other lenses, and right now it's JUNE!!! Not even a sniff of new product in the near future!!!

what if the lenses are not meant to compliment k10?
I mean what if they're full frame?....
What if they're being held back, so as not to kill sales of the k10?

what if they get released at the same time as a new camera model, (whose delayed developement mandated stalling the release of the lenses?)?
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Sorry Don, but why would Pentax even want to produce a full frame camera? The price of such a beast would not affect K10D sales one little bit.
But we digress. It seems to be the lot of the Pentax owner to have to wait....and wait......and wait. Then wait some more because demand has outstripped supply....again.

ever find youself at a wedding reception, (squatting down low enough to not be looking down on a little flower girl, (but not so low that a twirling skirt shows too much)), trying to capture an image of the flower girl as she dances with a little ring bearer?
you've got your camera up to your eye, your legs are cramping up (you've been on your feet all day), you've figured out her dance moves and the rythm of the song, and your waiting for the next big twirl, where the little boys face is in profile and the skirt is fanned out , and she's looking right at him, with a huge smile....
feels like an eternity.
somebodies mother is going to break down and cry when she see's the image, and imagines her little ones wedding wayyyyyinto the future.
feels like eternity waiting for that split second, but really...
a song only lasts 3 and 1/2 minutes....
patients pays off in our world.

I was just wondering, not placing bets....

helps to pass the time while I wait.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Well, considering the K10D is the highest spec Pentax DSLR, and the new DA* lenses are the highest spec new lenses, they wouldn't make them incompatible. Especially considering their compatibility history...

If they were full-frame, they would call them D-FA*...

Think about it. Nobody is going to buy a DA* lens and sit back and say "Now that I have my DA* lens, I don't need a K10D." I credit myself with average intelligence, and I do believe you need a lens AND a camera body. If someone buys the lens for a film body, they weren't going to buy a K10D in the first place.

Hmm...

I would think it's best to release different products in dribs and drabs. The psychology behind that is the "Pie Theory": If you eat a whole pie in a day, you would feel less guilty eating it in eight sittings of equal proportion than in one sitting all at once. Yet, you still end up eating the whole pie. Tally up how much money you've spent on camera gear and ask yourself if you would have bought it ALL in one big transaction.

I think the shift in popularity has a substantial lag to it in terms of meeting the demands of the new and improved, larger customer base.

I just wish they would mean what they say. Lip service eventually bites you in the ass.

I didn't say incompatible.

I suppose it would be highly unlikely that a manufacturer would release images that were altered to hide company secrets. Not likely that they'd want to get something out there to gage public reaction to generate forecasts of possible demand.

If you went down to buy yourself a k10 and a 16-50mm lens, and discovered that the newest lenses were full frame, would you not reconsider buying the k10 and the lens? Why not hold off untill the new camera gets released? I don't consider myself to be of average intelligence, but it would make sense to hold off releasing the lenses if you are behind schedual on the camera body to go with them.

It might help to rephrase "Full Frame" and say "sepecial feature" specific to a new, yet to be released camerabody.

Pentax have released lenses with the ability to support features which no current camera could use before. The A series lenses all support multi-pattern metering, but none of the A series Pentax cameras had such a system.
